I highly recommend this B&B. Our room was beautifully furnished, the breakfast was delicious and the hosts were great!

We stayed at this B & B in July based on the reviews we read on Tripadvisor. We liked the B & B, had fairly comfortable lodging and a great breakfast every day. The room we stayed in was a bit musty, lacked bed linens and we had to ask for bath towels. The location is good, on a quiet...

We very much enjoyed meeting you and your husband, and exchanging news about grandchildren. I must apologize, again, for those towels! That was my fault - I forgot to put them in your room, but my wife was able to find them the moment you mentioned their absence. As you know, the bed was made up in the normal way...

We arrived at Hart Street, and were pleasantly surprised to find this architecturally interesting townhouse, with it's walls lined with striking images, and a warm, pleasant welcome from the owners, James and Angela. We stayed a room in the lower level, with a window facing the ivy covered wall in the back. The bedroom was nicely proportioned, with a bright,...

14 Hart Street is a wonderplace to stay. The house is amazing, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. A nice touch is the tray with free whiskey and wine!

A friend and I stayed in the twin room for 4 nights in July 2011. The room was a good size, elegantly furnished, and looked out to a quiet back garden. The bedding was lovely, and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was small, but well appointed and the shower was excellent. As well as tea, coffee, water, and...

Angela and James are most gracious hosts. We could only stay one night in the spacious, well-furnished room which we were shown to immediately upon our arrival. There was wine and whisky waiting for us, which was much appreciated after a day of travel. The house is absolutely stunning. Breakfast was delicious. The bed was very comfortable. I could go...

I really cannot recommend 14 Hart Street more highly. This beautiful house set in a quiet street a few minutes from the bustle of central Edinburgh is one of the friendliest, most relaxed and yet elegant places I have stayed in a long while. The rooms throughout the house are really quite beautiful and our room in the basement of...

Our first visit to Edinburgh was blessed with the absolute wonderful Hospitality of our hosts at 14 Hart Street. You could not ask for a more pleasant and engaging couple to host your stay in Edinburgh. The B&B was very cozy, clean, and convenient to the Old Town district(and our favorite local Bar "The Basement". Each morning began with a...

We came across 14 Hart St. due to a recommendation of another B&B in Edingburgh, which was full during our intended stay in Edinburgh. That was a very lucky circumstance, because we really enjoyed our 2 night at 14 Hart St. Already the pre-phase by email was very friendly and Angela and James gave us help already weeks before we...

My husband and I stayed at 14 Hart Street for 3 nights in mid-June as part of our trip to London and other cities of the UK. Angela and James are very nice, warm hosts and we are glad that we made the right choice. We started every day with an excellent full breakfast, so thanks to Betty. The room...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
