The owners were very pleasant, cheerful and helpful. Location is somewhat central but transportation is really easy. This guest house is getting 'tired' and worn down. It was clean, as clean can be for an older place. The only issue I had, was the lack of outlets so don't forget to bring your portable chargers etc.. ALSO BE PREPARED, there...

Peeling wallpaper; mold on shower curtain and ceiling; outlet high on wall (couldn't reach outlet without standing on chair); doorknobs loose (I had to repair one myself when it came off in my hand); two front doors didn't latch unless firmly pressed closed, therefore, were often inadvertently left open by visitors (anyone from street could have come in). Problematic plumbing....

Fantastic guesthouse, staff were lovely, rooms tidy and the towels are changed daily. Very clean and beds were comfortable. Rooms 8,9,10 and I think 11 all have en suites it seems (we were room 9) these rooms are all on the top floor. On the first floor the shower room is shared between 2 rooms so if you want an...

Wanting to Visit Edinburgh during the Festival I found room rates some £200.00 + per night for the chain hotels I would normally use to be excessive more so because I was travelling Solo. With this in mind but with a bit of trepidation I decided to look at guest houses. First stop Trip advisor going through the list I...

I was very happily surprised when I arrived at the Alexander Guest House. The hotel looks very cute both from the outside and the inside and has an authentic and really 'English' feel. I was surprised because when I entered my room it was much bigger than the one person room I had booked online. Breakfast was great, the people...

We were in Edinburgh for my birthday. Had booked a room with one doublebed and two single beds. We were four people including my 3 year old daughter. Reached the location quite late at 10.30 pm as the flight landed at 9.30 pm. The owner, probably had slept by then, came to open the door and gave us our room...

I stayed here for 3 nights, the house is located about 30 mins walk from the Royal Mile and all the main attractions. It is in a quiet area which was nice, the house is very quiet and restful. There is a bus stop right outside with buses going into the city quite often, but it is really easy to...

Stayed in the Alexander for a couple of nights. Friendly owners who even organised a new TV within a day when the remote control wasn't working. Cleaning lady keeps the rooms meticously clean. Room was in the back, quite small but bathroom included and very quiet.

We stayed here for one night in last week of March. The building is little old but it was really clean and cozy. The owner was very helpful in giving us the instructions from the Edinburgh Waverley Station to reach the guest house by bus. They also accommodated our request for an early check in. Its only 10 mins by bus...

I wasn't sure what to expect staying in a guest house, as it largely depends on the owners. The landlady was lovely, very friendly and helpful with advice about how to enjoy the city. Felt comfortable right away, as a good guest house should be. Our room was lovely, and enormous. We actually wished we were staying longer. Breakfast was...
