I booked this hotel as a surprise trip for my boyfriend. Prior to arriving I had a few problems as I seemed to have booked a room without breakfast through an online agent. I emailed the hotel and Sara was so helpful and efficient at replying and solving my concern! On arrival we were upgraded to the Henderson Suite which...

I cannot fault the Nira Caledonia. The location is ideal and the staff are polite and courteous, The hotel restaurant (Blackwood Grill) has a tempting menu using locally sourced ingredients, the mussels and mixed grill are highly recommended. We stayed in the Jacuzzi suite which was immaculate, after exploring Edinburgh and eating well we slept soundly in luxurious surroundings.

I enjoyed several nights at the hotel and it was great. Room was a little tight but the staff and amenities made up for it. Breakfast was superb each day and everything was very fresh. Highly recommend. It is a little out of the way but it is within walking distance of everything

Can't recommend this Small Luxury Hotel enough. Gorgeous rooms, wonderful staff and fabulous breakfast. Situated in a beautiful street 10 minute walk from Princes Street. Edinburgh gin distillery is worth a visit as is The Stand comedy club

Perfectly placed for the typical Edinburgh visitor who wants all the classic tourist spots and some of the other attractions - such as the amazing little Kerr Street market on a Sunday. This Stockbridge craft and modern food market was busy and popular on a cold February day, I imagine it will be heaving in the high season. the hotel...

I booked 4 executive double rooms for a 2 night break with girlfriends and while everyone agreed the staff were exceptional, and made our stay, we all unfortunately had niggles. Terrific 2 night stay at Nira Caledonia. We were running late for our pre theatre dinner reservation. Staff very kindly arranged a taxi for us immediately and dealt with our luggage which allowed us to set off for the restaurant immediately. Breakfast was great with efficient, friendly and unobtrusive service in a lovely setting. We had an executive room in...

I have always loved Scotland but as a Londoner there is something about Edinburgh that connects with me. Mostly the people, warm, friendly and genuine. The Nira Caledonia is a microcosm of Edinburgh, Sean, Shon and all the staff are so helpful and welcoming. I was only there for e few days but from checking in to checking out, everything...

We booked a jacuzzi suite and was given a executive twin due to a fault with the offer on the SE website- both the hotel and SE said wasn't their fault. Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nira Caledonia is surrounded by the cobbled streets and Georgian elegance of New Town, a short stroll from Princes Street, Nira Caledonia is a central yet peaceful Edinburgh retreat. Amid the plush pelmets, rich textures and original cornices you'll find flat-screen televisions, Nespresso coffee machines, complimentary Wi-Fi and iPod docking stations. You'll find warm, heartfelt service and a cool, quirky style. Each of our sumptuous rooms and suites is unique, with its own opulent character. Many have vast floor-to-ceiling sash windows, others open out onto a private garden and some feature a relaxing Jacuzzi. All have new ultra-comfortable beds and pillows of goose feather and down. As a protected Grade A building we don't have a lift, but our porters are always on hand and we offer 24-hour room service. The cuisine at our restaurant is natural, fresh and often organic, with ingredients farmed, caught, raised or bred in Scotland and with over 25 Scotch whiskey blends and single malts, our bar also focuses on local flavours. With a friendly touch - and a touch of theatre - we welcome independent-minded travellers who prefer to go their own way. Come our way. ... more   less
