We booked Adria after reviewing where to stay on Trip Advisor, we were very pleased with our choice. We arrived early and were given a room straight away. The bathroom was huge! The house has been in the same family for some years and Eddy and Marie were most helpful. The house is beautiful. The location is right at the...

We stayed at Adria House for two nights and just wish it could have been for longer. Our room was lovely with the most beautiful bathroom. The house is very elegant and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was both plentiful and delicious. Maria, Edward and Eddie were the most attentive, helpful hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Adria House was...

I cannot say enough about this wonderful guest house. It may be listed as a 3 star but it is 5 star all the way. Beautifully restored Georgian home in the new town alongside Carlton Hill and just a 15 minute walk from Waverley train station and to the Royal Mile, it's setting alone is amazing. Eddie and Maria, the...

If I could make this my permanent residence in Edinburgh, I would. My en-suite garden view room was wonderful. The hot water did take a few minutes to reach my shower, just as the sign on the wall noted it would. Adria House is a healthy walking distance from all of the main attractions in town and a very easy...

We stayed at Adria House for two nights about 2 weeks ago, and it was more than we'd hoped for! Our room was HUGE, with big windows, beautiful furniture, overlooking the Georgian garden and with a fireplace. I loved that room! Everything was very very clean, the hosts Edward and Maria were fantastic - very helpful and very nice and...

Just returned from two nights in Edinburgh visiting my son at university. I chose Adria House because of the wonderful reviews and also because it was only a few minutes walk from my son's flat. My room was spotless, very comfortable and warm. Very friendly and helpful hosts. It was a great location for Waverley station, Royal Mile and Princes...

Wonderful! Edward and Maria are excellent hosts. We stayed for three very comfortable nights followed by three delicious breakfasts! Our room was cozy and had a beautiful view of the gardens. Staying at the Adria was a real treat and we're already planning our next visit to Edinburgh already!

My girlfriend and I had decided at the last moment to do a weekend trip to Edinburgh. As we had decided to take the train rather than drive or fly we wanted to find a place that was comfortable and close to the city center. After reviewing several options, we decided upon the Adria House as it met our criteria....

Edward and Maria are just wonderful. We had an excellent experience right from the first time I emailed them. They are gracious and accommodating and kind. Our arrival the first night was late and they made it seem to be no problem at all. Then we came and went on various outings of several days, and they even kept our...

Almost everything was great about the Adria House, from the building, to the rooms, the breakfast, the grounds and location. My only minor issue was with my particular room, as I didn't sleep as well as I had on previous nights. I still give it 5 stars because no one else in my party had complaints about the other 2...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The family-run Adria House offers charming, comfortable accommodation and good value for it's central location. It is within easy walking distance of the main bus and train stations and also near many of Edinburgh's principal cultural, historical and retail landmarks. Situated on Calton Hill within a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once a fashionable society house, the Adria House embodies much of the Georgian architecture and decorative elegance associated with the period found within Edinburgh's New Town. ... more   less
