booked this hotel as never been to Edinburgh before and unaware of exact location. Was a 10 minute walk into the centre but was a nice walk past the castle and easy access to the royal mile, princes street etc. Fab friend and very professional staff

22 of us stayed at Premier Inn in Lauriston Place - excellent service - all staff were friendly and helpful - check in took minutes as all ready for us, no hanging around. They knew we were celebrating a birthday and took the time to find the name of the birthday girl and put a happy birthday banner and bottle... More

We arrived a little bit early but had no problem checking in, which was done efficiently by very good staff. The room was of a good size for the two of us. The bed was comfortable and the room lovely and warm. We opted for the dinner and breakfast package for £23.99 which was excellent value for money and delicious!... More

Exceptional and friendly service from all the staff we met - thank you! Location fine, room also fine. A slight machinery-noise problem on our first night, which apparently affected the whole top floor, but given another room, with many apologies, for night 2. Good all-you-can-eat hot breakfast, from a buffet but better than average. Restaurant dinner adequate. The hotel might... More

This travel lodge is in a great location and with car parking which is within meters of the lodge is just ideal for sighting and shopping in the city, it's all you need, warm and with a good breakfast in the morning good place for a base when visiting the city.

Lovely hotel and very clean . Hotel situated just 15 min walk from princes street . Staff friendly and very helpful and although didn't use the restaurant due to arrangements made prior to arrival it looked very nice and plenty of people were enjoying the food . Would definitely stay again on next visit to Edinburgh

Hotel quite nice and not too big, which gave it a family run feel. Room fine, TVs decent size with a powerful shower. Bar was good for a quiet drink before hitting the high spots of town. You get what you are paying for.

Stayed for 2 nights midweek - great location, just 5 min wall to Grassmarket. We got a tram from Edinburgh Airport but then walked pretty much everywhere else. Great value for money, staff were really helpful, arranging cabs for us and booking us in a bit early. The place itself was lovely and clean, room really comfy with a decent... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
