We booked this hotel mostly due to the price we got. However the location was excellent as we got the train to Waverley and it was only about 5-10 minutes walk. Although we got into hotel earlier a room was available straight away so we could unpack and freshen up before heading out into Edinburgh itself. The room was good size, very clean with powerful shower with loads of hot water. Plenty of hangers to hang things up. Staff were very friendly, breakfast was busy when we first went down but the staff were helpful and recommended to come back an hour later as it would be less busy. We took their recommendations and when we came back down it was much quieter but there was no lack of all the selection of food. Plenty of fruit, yoghurt, cereals and also cold meat and cheese. The hot buffet was lovely and I especially thought the scrambled eggs and the haggis were excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

Perfect location for the royal mile, castle and Holyrood Palace. Based in old town and a short walk to the new town of Edinburgh. Lovely, pleasant and helpful staff. Good bar menu. Delicious breakfast and clean rooms. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel was spotless and the staff extremely helpful. We had an accessable room and it was very well equipped with a bench and safety rails in the bathroom. The hotel is also located just a short walk from the Royal Mile, Castle and center city attractions. While the hotel restaurant was good there are multiple restaurants, pubs and cafes within just a short walk. The departure point for most of the bus tours is also an easy walk up to High Street and the Royal Mile. We were there during the Fringe Festival and things were crazy but fun and the hotel was just far enough from things to be quiet.

Ibis offers great value for money compared to other accommodation in the area with concenient amenities like ample storage, a kettle and prime location near public transport and attractions. However, cleanliness under less visible areas could be improved. Friendly and helpful staff available 24/7.

Poor cost-benefit ratio. It's expensive for what it offers. There is no minibar and there is no way to buy water in the hotel lobby. The reception is terrible. They don't know how to give any information, not even the simplest, such as which side of the street to take the bus to go somewhere. Sometimes they don't even look at the people arriving. You need to have the key card to access the elevator. Little comfort, the bed is firm and the pillows are very fluffy. The windows don't open. The bathroom looks like a ship, all fiberglass, placed in the middle of the room, with access via a dangerous step. Very small bathroom. Low pressure in the bath water. Horrible body wash and conditioner. There are no face towels. The comfortable living room does not exist: there are two chairs and a small table in the corner. The television has few channels, 2 for news and 2 for films, the rest are irrelevant. The coffee maker is the Nespresso with the conventional plastic capsule (not the round pad), and it only has ristreto, without replacement. There is an electric kettle to heat water in the room and tea bags and instant coffee at reception. The cleanliness was also poor, the bathroom was full of hair upon arrival and the floor was dirty for walking barefoot. There is 1 socket available in the room, near the entrance door, and those for the coffee maker and vase. There is an electrical extension cord available. I wouldn't stay there again.

It is well located, the room was very spacious with an armchair, it had bathrobes, slippers, a coffee maker, an electric kettle and some complimentary snacks. The hotel has a bar and restaurant. staff is very friendly. The heating in my room had broken and they couldn't fix it, but they immediately brought me a heater and offered me a change of room. They responded very quickly and kindly to my problem.

An Ibis never is a luxurious hotel, but always a good option if you only need a bed and a shower. This one is at a very central location close to public transport, pubs and restaurants. Within walking distance of the old town and Princess Street. I have been here for three nights during a five night stay. The hotel has very friendly and welcoming staff at reception always acknowledging when you pass them coming or going. The same level of good service in the bar and restaurant. Because of my loyalty status I was upgraded to a room on the highest floor (912) and got welcome gifts like Prosecco, soft drinks, chocolates and crisps. And of course a welcome drink in the bar. The size of the room is the same as I am used to in other Ibis hotels, although a Nespresso machine is a nice extra. The air-conditioning and heather unit doesn’t work or is switched off, but there is heather unit in the room. Although it is February and temperatures at night are still close to freezing, I didn’t need it, because the thick walls provide enough insulation. That insulation also keeps out every outside noise, although some sound can sometimes be heard inside by inconsiderate guests slamming doors coming or going. I skip the cleaning on most days by putting the no cleaning needed sign on my door, but the room is clean enough. Overall there is good value for money (£90 a night) in Edinburgh.

Our stay at the ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge - Royal Mile had its ups and downs. The first room we were given was quite dated, with noticeable chips in the floors and walls—something you might expect from a budget hotel. However, given that we paid £250-300 per night, we expected a bit more. Fortunately, the front desk staff and management were quick to respond, and they upgraded us to a much better room. If you’re booking, I highly recommend opting for the upgraded suite. The beds were reasonably comfortable, and the room was a decent size for the area.
One downside was the bathroom, which can best be described as similar to what you’d find in a cruise ship or RV. The property itself could benefit from some extensive renovations, as it is clearly showing its age. That said, the hotel was clean and served its purpose as a place to sleep during our stay. If you’re expecting a luxury experience or something beyond a basic budget hotel, you might want to look elsewhere.
On a positive note, the location is fantastic, with nearly every major attraction within a 15-20 minute walk.
If you’re a fan of the Ibis brand like myself and are looking for a budget-friendly option, I’d recommend checking out the ibis Edinburgh Centre Royal Mile - Hunter Square. It’s just a 3-minute walk away and appears to be in better condition.

The Ibis is an "economy" hotel that uses it's prime location close to the train station and the Royal Mile to command much higher prices than the hotel is generally worth. The design of the hotel is aggressively spartan and minimalist. It definitely feels like a budget hotel, almost a youth hostel experience, or maybe a hospital room, while commanding 200+ GBP per night. Judging by the Ibis, supply and demand for hotel rooms in the popular areas of Edinburgh are definitely a bit out of whack. The most lasting impression of the rooms at the Ibis are modular bathrooms that are clearly mass-produced in a factory and then just dropped into a corner of the guest room. They look and feel like something you would have in your cabin on a budget cruise line.
Did it get the job done? Yes. Did we sleep well? Yes. Did we enjoy our stay? Meh.

Don't bother. From the moment we arrived, this place was terrible. From the curbside to the packed reception of people fighting their way through the tiny reception to the bedding that didn't fit, the minimal amenities and the dirty carpet, this hotel was nothing more than poor. The hotel was in chaos when we arrived, with around 30 or more travellers crammed into the reception. At check-in, I was told I had already checked in the day before and then given a room card. When I asked if anyone was occupying the room, the staff member went to check. On arrival, we found no fridge, no phone, no room service, no wardrobe (although there was a rack to hang clothes), no safe, no robes or toiletries except shower gel and shampoo. The bed sheets didn't fit the bed. The bathroom was a fibreglass module in the corner, smaller than a cruise ship bathroom. However, it was clean upon arrival. We cut our 6-day stay short to 5, and during that time, our beds were never changed. Cleaning was very basic. Thankfully, there was no carpet in the room, and the room was airconditioned. The view from the room was of a derelict building across the road. Breakfast was average and closed at exactly 10 am. If you enjoy a nice drink in the lobby this is definitely not your place. Parking was a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel, which you'd expect being in the centre of Edinburgh. The cost of this hotel was $605 AUD per night, so it wasn't cheap. Although we expected the price to be inflated due to the Tattoo and Fringe being on, we didn't expect the hotel to be this bad. Outside, the streets were packed with people and dirty (not the hotel's fault). The hotel is very central to the Royal Mile, if that's what you want.

I booked the premium room via the hotel website and it was on the ninth floor, which I think is the top floor. I have no idea on the size of the room but there was definitely plenty of space. Hope this helps.
