A lovely hotel full of business types and exclusive holiday makers. No riff raff. Thoroughly enjoyable. Staff were friendly, room was very smart and well made up. The hotel was excellently located for amenities and access to the city via the castle.

The hotel itself is modern and clean and my room, although long and thin, was big enough. The bathroom seemed brand new and the shower was powerful and hot. Bread Street (where the hotel is located) is a bit grotty but the location overall is pretty central and there are lots of dinner options nearby.

This hotel is perfect for being in central Edinburgh with a short 10min walk to Princess Street. You can park a 5min walk away at the Semple Street Underground Car park, once at the hotel they stamp your ticket and you receive 24hr parking for £7, much better than other hotels offer. Room was on one of the 'Hilton HHonors'...

My family chose to have our Christmas Day meal at the Family Carvery being offered by the Doubletree Hotel, and we had an excellent experience. The staff were very helpful, the food excellent both in terms of quality and choice, and an activities room for the five boys with us meant that they fully enjoyed the experience. As Grandad, I...

I stayed here on business and got a great rate (<£70 0per night, breakfast an extra £10). First impressions were good. Reception staff were friendly, check in was quick and I got a warm cookie! The room was ok (bit of a weird shape, very long and narrow) - clean and pretty well equipped. Breakfast was excellent, with one small...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
