My husband and our daughters stayed here when in Edinburgh for daughter's graduation. It was the perfect location. The hotel staff were superb helpful and all seemed to genuinely want our stay to be perfect. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable, the food both breakfast and dinner were delicious.... and oh those gorgeous welcoming cookies! Highly recommended

Hotel not centrally located as the website makes you believe. Not really useful for any amenities. Wouldn't stay again as did not live upto expectation. If you wanted a social night out and didn't want to walk into a empty pub, then weatherspoons and slug and lettuce was a taxi ride away or a 25 min walk.

We spent two nights there over a weekend It was really very good . Great location and the Castle view rooms are superb. There may be a bit of noise late at night on the weekends - Edinburgh is a very social city ! I'd suggest you go high or towards the back of the hotel if its a Friday/Saturday... More

I cannot recommend the staff more highly than the team in this hotel. They were so friendly and approachable and the hotel and its amenities were perfect. Nothing was too much and every staff member communicated in a way that left you feeling valued and listened to, they were exceptional.

Perfect place to stay in Scotland's beautiful capital. I could not have been more pleased and the staff were excellent and tended to my every need. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a stay in Edinburgh - just be aware that the hotel is a good ten to fifteen minute walk from Waverley station, so not ideal if... More

Myself and my parents stayed here for 2 nights. Decent hotel, clean and friendly staff. We decided to share a room between the 3 of us, slightly disappointed that they couldn't be bothered to arrange the extra bed properly sticking it by the wardrobe instead of across the other side of the room. We phoned up to see if they... More

The rooms are clean, and fairly spcaious for a city centre hotel. The reception area was clean, bright and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a great location for grassmarket and royal mile. Walkable to princes Street and most of the city centre. Nice little bar attached.

We stayed here during a few days in Edinburgh for my girlfriends birthday, I choose this hotel for its location and reviews frequently mentioned the friendly, helpful staff. Same standard you'd expect at a doubletree... nice welcome and decent room (after we were moved due to being in someone else's room). We were here for a gig in the castle so was nice and close. Had food in the restaurant which I'd eat in again.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
