If you are on the look out for somewhere in a great location and want to meet some fun people then look no further. Remember it is a hostel, not a hotel. It is on a main road, and it is above a bar, so if you need silence in order to sleep, i wouldn't stay here. I stayed for...

Staff was very kind and caring. Bedrooms were clean. Bathroom was perfectly clean. Definitely felt welcomed and kind of had the feeling of coming home! Planning to go back there when visiting Edinburgh.

That small hostel in the centre of Edinburgh is perfect for young people. We spent 2 days there, the atmosphere is great, and the fact that the linked pub downstairs offers special prices for people staying at the hostel is a large bonus!

Very accomodating, did'nt charge for the night we never showed up due to bad weather, awesome burgers in the pub below and the discount was great! Also very clean, they let an underaged kid we had with us stay if we abided by the no drinking rules of the pub which was fine.

Spending a night in Edinburgh? Malone's Old Town Hostel is THE perfect place to stay. Conveniently located (0.5 minutes to the university if you attend a conference like me or 2 minutes to the National Museums of Scotland if you love arts and history). Nice rooms, good breakfast and absolutely fantastic staff!

The hostel is very central, hardly 5 -10 minutes walking to the royal mile, the breakfast is for free and very complete. But above all, all the people who are working in this hostel are great! They made me feel at home since the moment when I arrived. Whenever you need something they are very happy to help you, and...

The hostel is a really nice location, right in the Old Town. You can walk to anywhere in Edinburgh city centre from here. The room was nice and spacious, and the beds were comfy. The pillows were very soft and full, usually in hostels they are flat and worn out, so this is always nice to find on those rare...

Great location, central to pretty much everything. Lots going on at the hostel, different activities or group outings are organized for every night. The hostel's bar gives great discounts for guests, and has good traditional Scottish dancing once a week. Good sized hostel, definitely worth it, also probably the most affordable accommodation in the city! Plus free breakfast (:

Excellent location, with good wifi and bathrooms, as well as very friendly and helpful staff. However, the rooms were not great, as the beds were very sqeaky (making noise anytime the occupant moved), and some were falling apart.

Malones: great location, great price, friendly staff! Everything was ready and clean when I arrived and the staff was very friendly and helpful for identifying key sites to see. I highly recommend hiking to Arthur's Seat!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
