Checked in online day previously, ticked box to say we would arrive before noon. Had booked 3 rooms. None ready until 3pm, one not ready until after 4;30 pm. Reception staff all nice but booking system and housekeeping very disappointing. Had to complete 3 sets of forms online for the 3 rooms. Later received at home 3 identical receipts and other forms. The system is not geared to multiple room booking.

Lovely hotel. Staff were super helpful. Very clean and spacious. Wifi and TV were fast and in good working order! Lovely pool and facilities. Close to grass market and not far from the royal mile which was handy! Would recommend and stay again!

The welcome you receive and all the staff are fantastic, friendly & professional which to be honest is the all this hotel has going for it. On entering the room the carpets at the entrance where dirty, the layout is somewhat bizarre with the toilet located in something that looks like a tiny cupboard, no sink to wash your hands afterwards, this is located in the bathroom about 70cm from the bed. The silicone around the sink in the bathroom was peeling off and looked generally dirty and scruffy. The cost for this hotel was approx £255 a night, this is room only, no breakfast included which is another £16 per person and as well as this, if you have come in a car then it’s £22 a day on top as well for parking. Breakfast was ok, nothing special just a standard buffet you’d get at any budget hotel, the spa facilities are ok, the steam was broken so we couldn’t use it, sauna & pool were fine, jacuzzi had far to much chlorine in it, actually felt my eyes burning just sitting in it so has to leave after a minute or so. All in all, it was an adequate hotel and if priced at approx £90 a night it might just have scrapped 3 stars but at £255 a night for room only I have it at 2 stars and that’s only because the staff were so nice. My advice would be to go to the premier inn next door.. at least you know it’s going to be a clean room and a comfy bed.

The location of this hotel is really great, service was very good, the communal areas good & the breakfast was good so have rated a 4 but the room itself was a 3. Breakfast had plenty of choice & the waffle maker was a hit. The pool was good but small & very busy. We stayed in an executive room for more space as we needed the sofa bed plus we chose to have a view of the castle. We felt the room itself was a bit of a let down given the decor of the reception area & the bar/ restaurant plus while the room was big most of that space was the 'bathroom area' & the wardrobes, luggage rack. The room was ok, nothing special, the main bed was too hard for our taste so didn't get a great sleep. The saving grace for the heat was that we had 2 sets of windows we could open. The room we were in had clearly had a leak from the shower into the bedroom for quite some time with what looked like previous failed repairs. It meant the carpet ended up wet when someone had a shower plus old staining & a damp wall. Overall you're paying a high rate for the location & shared spaces.

I hadn't planned to go public with review! However after getting no response from a private email I decided to do so. The fact that I got no reply from my email, says it all! Nobody cares! We booked a room for two adults and two children at a cost of over €500 for two nights The room was basically a small double room with a pull out sofa bed, not ideal for two kid's sharing! The room was impossible to walk around, way too small for a sofa bed! The worst part was the carpets they were absolutely disgusting stains all over the entire carpet. The walls of the toilets were all dirty and stains all up the sides. The room needs a overhaul, hinges fixed etc, carpets and curtains changed and a fresh coat of paint! The good points were location and the food. We had breakfast one of the mornings and there was a fabulous variety

On arrival we a bit early, the room wasn’t ready which was okay, but the girl at reception was a bit rude and generally not nice! The hotel is okay the rooms are very good and to a high standard, the beds are nice too,the showers are fabulous too. It was also nice to have a separate toilet too. Some of the staff are very nice at the hotel and helpful, but some of them look down on you they should never judge somebody as you don’t know them. The serious negative points are, restaurant plate cups bowls were dirty, I did mention this to the girls in the restaurant who were apologetic, but saying this some of the plates were disgusting full of egg and other bits of food. The bowls were dirty too and some cups. The food was just okay nothing special! Bacon was cheap full of fat sausages were heavy and not very nice. Coffee from the machine was lukewarm this restaurant need a good looking at, lack of people checking to see if things needed replacing. The Swimming pool is nice, and jacuzzi but someone had put too much chlorine in this we had to come out of the pool and jacuzzi, the whole family started coughing eyes were sore. I Spoke to Annie at reception who called the maintenance team, the really spoilt things as we booked this hotel because of the pool. Not sure I would say I recommend this hotel our room also had dirty marks on the carpet. Considering we paid a lot of money for one night you do not expect more this just wasn’t the case at this hotel.

we booked 2 rooms for a family of 5 at a cost of just over £400 as a last minute break, we arrived at about 8 in the evening the location was ideal, upon entering we got an alright welcome, nothing to write home about, we got to our rooms only to find out that there was no air conditioning only a climate control unit that didn’t work, i called reception they advised us that the maintenance team left for the day and will be back in the morning, which was no good to us as we were leaving first thing, wd got offered a fan which we accepted. we thought we would try the pool to cool down, when we entered it was so hot and the stench of chlorine was uncomfortable, if this was syria the UN would have been called in, our eyes started burning we left after 30 minutes. we got back to our rooms and we tried drinking the water from the mini bar it was warm, the fridge doesn’t work in both rooms, and the rooms were even warmer when we stayed in them, i called reception again to ask gor a second fan , i was advised that they had none, the reception’s advise, without a hint of irony, was to take a shower and open a window and sleep without a duvet. we come up to edinburgh at least once a month and this hotel is by far the worst we’ve ever stayed in.

Firstly, we did enjoy our stay at the Novotel. We stayed there for three nights. We stayed here the first two nights of our vacation and the last night before we headed to the airport. The beds are comfortable and it is in an awesome location. We were able to walk everywhere with young kids. My kids are used to walking so that wasn't a big deal for our family. We got a family room with a king size bed and the wonderful staff converted the couch into a bed for our kiddos to share. The part that we did have issues with was that each room does not have control over thermostat. It is regulated by hotel. The only thing that we have control over is the fan, which isn't that strong. In our first room, the integrated room fan did not work so we had to be moved to another room. It was still incredibly hot and they had to bring down two portable fans to cool down the room, this is with the window open. The window only swings out about 3 inches, which really isn't enough to cool down the room and get some airflow. The last night that we stayed there, we called down to have a fan or two brought to our room. I don't know if the woman at the front desk was under a lot of stress or not, but she was kind of rude and told us that there were no more fans because other guests had them and to try and condescendingly asked if we had tried to open a window. My thought is that if we are not the only ones dealing with this issue and there are other guests dealing with the same problem, then perhaps work on a solution; like ordering more fans or manually adjusting the thermostat for the whole hotel. After calling a few times, we were able to get a fan to our room, which allowed us to sleep comfortably. I would stay here again with our family. I would just make sure that we prearrange to have a fan or two in our room. If you sleep hot like I do, I would suggest the same for you.

A nice hotel with a nice centerlocation. Close to grassmarket. The only negative is the lack of non-fried vegetables at breakfast. Surprisingly good coffe and so friendly staff. Strong recommendation to stay there. Maybe a bit expensive.
