We originally booked two nights but decided to stay for three to explore more of the city. Castle View is extremely central and within walking distance of most common and must-see attractions. The room was comfortable albeit a little noisy after hours (which isn't really a complaint because it's something you have to expect being SO downtown and close to...

The guest house is right in the city with great views of the castle. It is such a good location, in walking distance to shops and restaurants, the old town, Haymarket, Dean Village and the railway station, to mention a few. Nothing was too much trouble for Martin and Magic and they were especially helpful with our luggage. There are...

My daughter and I have just returned from a three night stay at Castle View - I have to say it's a little gem of a place. You will struggle to find better value in Edinburgh - the location is perfect and within steps of Princes Street, and very handy for the airport bus. We arrived late on Sunday evening...

Was here for 2 nights on business. This guest house was fabulous, unless you don't do stairs. The reception and lowest level rooms are on the first floor, which is approx 20 steps up. The dining room, which actually has the castle view, is on the 3rd floor, a mere 46 stairs from the 1st floor. It was fine for...

Writing this review on our last day here - it's a gem of a hotel in a great location for everything ... it's 3 mins away from the airport 100 link bus stop from Edinburgh airport (£7.50 return and a 25 minute journey). The rooms are cosy and large, have tea coffee facilities and some sweets are left daily and...

Lovely central hotel with large comfortable rooms. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Close to all tourist attractions, pubs, restaurants and shopping. We really enjoyed our stay. We would definitely stay there again.

We were on the third floor above the street in Downtown Edinburgh. Great location as it is walking distance from Edinburgh Castle, Old Town Edinburgh, and the Park. Surrounded by great shopping, restaurants, and pubs. Just blocks away from the Trolley and bus stop for public transportation to anywhere in the city including the Airport and nearby train stations. The...

Guesthouse was in the perfect location for exploring both Princes Street and just a 20 minute stroll to The Royal Mile. The staff were extremely friendly and professional, especially Magic. Breakfast could be improved. Plenty of choice for fruits, yoghurt and juices, but hot options are dry and tasteless. Just need to source better options. We read the reviews before...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
