Great as we were going to theatre. Been several times but it's starting to show wear and tear in rooms. Staff all friendly and helpful. Very expensive now for rooms and warning add on approx £19 for breakfast it's not worth it. Better value around.

Very quant Marriott with generous size rooms for a European city. The common areas are very welcoming and we experienced some great connections in the lounge area each evening while sitting by the fireplace and sharing stories of other guests days of exploring Edinburgh.....highly recommend this spot.

I used to stay here a lot ten years ago but sadly it has not moved on on those intervening years, decor is the same but now rather dated. It is nice but not worth the premium they charge. Don't stay if you want value for money! The breakfast was good when I got it almost 50 minutes after I...

We stayed here for three nights. Feel it's is far too overpriced, we have stayed at the George before and will be going back there next year. On arrival there are two desks in the reception area with nothing else going on, no atmosphere. The room was one which led on to the rooftop garden this was nice and peaceful...

My wife and I arrived in Edinburgh on the 2nd December for a 2 night visit and chose to return to the Glasshouse where we had previously had an enjoyable stay. On arrival at the hotel at 2:45pm, we went to check in, and as we were a bit earlier than the advertised 3pm check in time, we we advised...

What a visit! From check in to check out it was an absolute delight. My wife and I have stayed here before on several occasions and always received a warm reception and an immaculate room. This time we were very fortunate and were upgraded to what must be the best hotel room we've seen. Simple words do not adequately describe...

Great location for walking access to Edinburgh locations. Very modern rooms expanded , British breakfast included, easy walking outside for viewing city landmarks. Wonderful friendly staff. Great art in the hallways featuring local artists.

Staff exceptionally helpful and cheery, rooms spotless and fantastic layout of the rooms! Great location. Stayed at the Caledonian last time we were in Edinburgh and isn't a patch on this hotel. Rarely happens but we were so sad to leave after our stay, would highly recommend and will be back next time we're in Edinburgh.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
