Well located down the bottom end of The Royal Mile, everywhere easily walkable from here. Holyrood Park, Arthur's Seat, Parliament, Palace very close by. We booked a studio for four nights. Well equipped and clean, functional and pleasant neutral decor. Milk, tea, coffee, salt, pepper, washing up liquid and dishwasher tabs provided. Also towels changed daily and toiletries refreshed. Tesco... More

Wasn't too sure about staying here - generally would choose a hotel rather than an apartment/aparthotel but enjoyed it. Service was great, brought my bag to store very early in the morning, back late in the evening to check-in and left my bag after check-out - nothing was a problem for the staff. They were pleasant and really helpful! The... More

This is the second time I've stayed here. The last time 10 years ago but I remembered it fondly so choose it again. The apartments are very clean and provide a good alternative to a hotel. Being a group of friends away for the weekend the kitchen/ diner/ lounge space worked perfectly as we could relax between outings, rise at... More

This is by far the worst apartment I have stayed at during my many visits to Edinburgh. The bed was dreadful as you can feel every spring because it's such poor quality. They changed my room after I demanded to cancel my week's stay but it was not much better.

I booked this aparthotel for a trip to Edinburgh to see the rugby at Murrayfield with my daughter . It was a last minute thing as we normally stay with family but they were indisposed. The apartment was roomy and comfortable without being spectacular. Great base and situation for getting into the city centre and quiet and peaceful being off... More

Just a 10-15 minute walk from Waverley Station, this place was a great base for a recent business trip. The apartment was well appointed with everything I needed and very clean. Sleep quality was great, although the bed had probably seen better days. There is a Tesco round the corner so you don't have far to stock up. The location... More

Stayed 2 nights with 2 family couples. We had a 2 bedroom ensuite on the 3rd floor with great views of Authors Seat. Comfortable living area, bedrooms and kitchen. Complimentary breakfast supplies was plentiful and all we needed for 2 days. Just a few steps from the Royal Mile so located beautifully to walking to the castle and shops. The... More

We stay the Holyrood apartHotel at a mid point of a Ireland/Scotland trip. We had a studio apartment and really enjoyed our stay. It has all the features of an apartment including a washer/dyer which was great since we needed to have some clean laundry. The staff were exceptionally helpful, since we had a troublesome TV which misbehaved, they always... More

We stayed in a twin studio apartment for 3 nights and found it to be comfortable and perfectly adequate. The kitchen (open plan with the seating area and bed area) was well equipped with dishwasher (tablets provided) and washer / drier (powder provided) as well as the usual equipment. Very quiet and convenient for all attractions in city centre. Very helpful staff and nice room (602). Beds a bit wobbly but still comfortable. All equipment in rooms are modern and living room very nice and cosy, Our apartment had two bathrooms which were very good although plumbing a bit noisy.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
