Kew house is an old family house converted into a commercial establishment. Having said that what strikes you the moment you enter the place is how well maintained and how neat the place is .. every small detail is thought through. Owners Ian and Alan are very friendly and do their best to ensure that guests staying here are well...

INNKEEPER’S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 6 March 2017

I visited Edinburgh on a rather hurried conference trip, but I'm so glad I found Kew House. The room—and of course the whole B&B—was immaculately presented, and it was a real pleasure to return here at the end of a busy day. When the rain cleared, I even had a lovely view of the hills in the distance (quite a...

Nice, friendly place, welcoming single travellers as well as families. Conveniently placed for busses into town as well as Edinburgh Airport. Attention to the details that make a difference when you arrive at the end of a long day's travel. Will return!

Plus side: 1. Great location - beside bus stop for airport and Edinburgh city centre. Easy walk into Edinburgh for walkers. 2. Very quiet even though on main road. 3. Very clean. 4. Good hearty breakfast. 5. Friendly and helpful owners. 6. Nice touches like bottled water and fridge in room. Negative side 1. Room and en suite on small...

It was a pleasure to meet you on your overnight stay with us and I thank you for taking the time to put your view on Trip Advisor. I note your comments on room layout and sadly when a large family home is converted to a guest house (rather than being custom built accommodation) then some compromises need to be...

My daughter is studying in Dublin for the semester. We planned a visit to see her, as well as a 4 day weekend in Edinburgh. I consulted TripAdvisor, and found the Kew House with its excellent reviews. I'm so glad I did! From the welcome email three months before the trip to our time of departure, we felt appreciated. Ian...

It is so kind of you to take the time to write such a detailed review of your stay with us. We really appreciate it and all the details given. We put a lot of small detail into our business and usually it is just accepted as part of the stay so to have you note so many of the...

Attention to detail makes this a worthy 5 Star B&B. Forget to large corporate hotels with their gyms and saunas, I'm converted to this B&B for my future trips to Edinburgh. Friendly, efficient, very well appointed and the personal touch. A lovely Easter Egg treat in the room last night when we returned from our night out. It's a short...

Firstly thank you for your review and secondly, thanks to both of you for contributing to a fun Easter weekend at Kew House. It was more like a gathering of friends than a stay at a guest house! I hope we see both of you again when back here in Edinburgh and we will take that long overdue return visit...

Stayed here for one night, arriving late and leaving early for work. Owners were super friendly and helpful, but not too much! Sometimes I find b and bs a little awkward, but not the case here. Felt very comfortable. I had room 6 , the double downstairs. Really lovely. Also appreciated the little bits in the room like chocolates 😊

You may have had a short stay but I am so glad you took full advantage of it and we enjoyed having you stay with us. Having had to travel extensively for business in my past life I fully understand your comments on feeling awkward in B&B's and making sure that doesn't happen here is one of the things we...

This is badged as a 5* B&B and it's definitely worth the stars! Spotless accommodation, great facilities with nice touches like good whisky in the room together with chocolates and quality toiletries. Comfortable bed in a tastefully decorated room. Great, freshly cooked breakfast and nothing was too much trouble for the owners. It's a decent walk into town but very...

It was very kind of you to leave a detailed review of your stay. It is appreciated and I am so pleased you like so many things about Kew House. The convenience of our location also means we are near to a roadway but the secondary glazing is extremely effective at blocking what background noise there is. Like yourself, few...

Real 5 star experience with personal touch from gracious hosts. Sherry and chocolates in room much appreciated after 9 hour drive. Nice to have lounge available. Excellent breakfast. Parked car 5 yards from entrance.

Thank you. I appreciate your comments. The lounge, to me, is really important especially when checking in early or if two rooms are together. It gives guests a place to talk to each other and it saddens me that so many B&B's have done away with their lounges. I suppose the space is then used as an extra bedroom. We...

Stayed here for 2 nights in March and had a wonderful time. The owners were great and a wealth of knowledge. Told us about places to eat, what to see, what buses to take and were able to make a few phone calls for us. The room was the perfect size. We were in room 4. Bathroom was small, but...

It was kind of you to post a review of your stay and as always we are happy to see happy guests! Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
