I booked a room at the Haggis Hostel while I was on a trip with a couple of friends and I was quite nervous because it was a first for me, taking care of all of these traveling details, and you always get that little fear that something went wrong or eventually it will. No such thing at the Haggis...

My wife and I had booked five nights here for our October trip to Edinburgh, and upon arrival at night found the Haggis Hostel very difficult to find, and once there after stumbling in a back street, had to climb up about 100 steps straight up a spiral staircase, and once in the office, the young female night manager advised...

Hi Stephen, Normally we would thank you for taking the time to leave your review. On this instance due to the complete lack of facts and your malicious attack on our business we are unable to do so. I stayed at the Haggis Hostel from Dec 16th-18th and it was wonderful. For starters, you couldn't ask for a better location. The hostel is situated about 5 minutes from the train station, almost directly in the city centre and is surrounded by restaurants and bars. The rooms and washrooms were very clean and well maintained. The free breakfast (croissants,...

Perfectly located to visit all the attractions as they are in walking distance, and also for shopping as the main shopping street is just around the corner. Was great to have breakfast included. All areas are cleaned on a daily basis, wi-fi works very well too. To top it all off, the staff are really nice and make you feel...

The Hostel is perfectly situated in Edinburgh New Town and less than a minute away from Princes Street. To get to the Old Town you have to walk approx. 5-10min. The room I stayed in was quite small and cramped but it was OK. The showers and toilets were clean. There was a great atmosphere and the staff was always...

The hostel is perfectly placed, just minute away from the main city attractions. The showers and restrooms were clean. The wifi didn't work must of the nights but on the day everything was fine. The guys from the reception are really nice and always help you.

It is quite hard for me to review this hostel because I have never stayed in one and you cannot compare it to a hotel. I am giving 4 stars as this is a compromise. For friendliness, cleanliness and convenience it gets 5 stars. For being a little bit run down (it just needs a lick of paint and a...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
