Every aspect of our stay, from check in to check out, was flawless. Our train back to London was cancelled and the concierge personally walked us to the station with our bags to make sure we got on an earlier, unaffected train. He then walked us onboard and got us settled. Well above and beyond the call of duty. Additionally,...

My earlier stay this year at the Bamoral was disappointing. Notwithstanding, it's preferential location swayed the balance and I decided to stay here again. Stayed under the fine hotels and resorts package by American Express. The Festival was on and Edinburgh was hectic. Checked in later evening and asked for a late check out the following day to which the...

I stayed at this hotel for two nights while attending a seminar on finance. The hotel is located at the one end of the Princes St next to the Train Station(which makes connection so easy). This hotel is a real beauty especially at night when all of its domes and pillars are lit up. The rooms are very nice and...

Good location, centrally located--GREAT restaurant, nice staff; rooms a little dated, but otherwise a good and upscale location in Edinburgh. Nice view of Castle; parking a problem--must valet for additional charge

Overall my stay at the Balmoral Hotel was excellent. It is a stunning, historic building, while also offering modern conveniences. The location is great - close to everything. Service was always prompt and courteous. The only suggestion I have is to update the TV channels and ensure safety in the bathroom (if it has a step).

Enjoyed our stay at this historic hotel very much. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was lovely - just a standard room - and a decent size. Loved the pretty tub! Breakfast at Hadrians was nice. Could not beat the location - awesome! Would definitely stay again. Only bit of confusion - why do the pictures of the Rowling-signed...

Nice location close to Edinburgh castle, clean room, great service from all members of staff. What you see on the website is what you will get. Breakfast was ok, nothing more than that, but we weren't particularly bothered. Would we recommend this place - yes we would

Absolutely beautiful, and very close to Edinburgh Castle. This hotel could actually be a castle - old, ornate, comfortable and stodgy at the same time. The breakfast - included in the cost of the room - was as good as it gets. And the Scotch cellar (over 400 single malts!) is an experience not to be missed.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
