We stayed at the Indigo after being bumped last minute from our reservation at another hotel. This was a good thing after all. The hotel is in a great location, convenient to many of the activities in the city. The hotel is very well kept with a modern design. We stayed here at the first and last of our trip....

My one night visit started with a quick and efficient check-in with my room ready at 2pm. The room was stylish and immaculate. I didn't have dinner in the restaurant but had breakfast there which was very well served. The location of the hotel is in walking distance of the main sights without being right in the middle of town....

We had a very nice room - great size and amenities. Hotel was located in perfect location to use tram for airport. Hotel staff could not have been nicer. Good breakfast in the mornings too. Highly recommend!

We booked a weekend package including 1st class rail with 2 nights stay with Superbreaks, the hotel was changed last minute to the Indigo, this was a pleasant surprise, we had a room on the 4th floor, the room was a bit small, very clean, included a minibar with soft drinks, tea and coffe facility with biscuits and crisps, which...

I stayed at the Hotel Indigo for 3 nights during my work trip to Edinburgh. I understand what other people mean by the rooms being a bit small, but for one person I had plenty of space and for a city trip it would still serve well even for two people. The room decor was really lovely and everything was...

This hotel was in the perfect location to see all of Edinburgh. It was an easy walk to all of the major sites plus the tram stops right outside the hotel. All of the staff at reception, the bar, and restaurant were amazing! Andrea checked us in and gave us wonderful recommendations for area attractions, places to eat, and directions....

This was a business trip and I wanted to be in the city for convenience. The hotel is at the end of the new Edinburgh tram to/from the airport so super convenient for getting too/from airport. Small hotel like most in the city. The rooms are decent size kind of a square layout but functional. Really nice modern bath which...

My partner and I stayed in this hotel on a long weekend visit to Edinburgh. It's situated right by the final tram stop from the airport and the bus stop (no. 26) for the zoo, so all in all it's the perfect place to stay if you're going out and about! The hotel was really nicely decorated and had lovely,...

This hotel is literally across the street from the last stop on the tram to/from the airport, so if you're traveling by air, it's very convenient. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station and just a bit further to the Royal Mile. The rooms are modern and comfortable, with a good bed, better-than-average air conditioning (very quiet!),...

We stayed here at the weekend for our wedding anniversary. We picked it as it looked like a stylish hotel in a great location and we weren't disappointed. The hotel staff were great, very helpful and friendly. On booking I spoke to the hotel and managed to get booked into one of the hotels parking bays. They called the day...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
