We stayed here for our anniversary and had a junior suite. It was a lovely room with plenty of space and we were very comfortable. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the cooked breakfast was lovey too. It was our first time in Edinburgh and it was conveniently located near princes street and we had views of the...

We stayed 2 nights recently and loved our stay. In particular, it was good to get away from the 'hotel feeling' - here one could almost imagine oneself living here in a chic apartment with a concierge. The bedroom faced an intersection which made for some enjoyable people watching. The double glazed windows meant noise was not an issue, we...

Highly recommended if you're a first timer in Edinburgh. Perfect location given proximity to Princes Street, George Street and views of Edinburgh Castle. The decor is modern and very tasteful. We stayed at one of the rooms with a castle view which made it a little more special especially at night. As we were there during the Easter weekend, breakfast...

A lovely stay at a fantastic hotel for a 60th birthday celebration! The staff were welcoming and not only took our luggage before check-in but arranged for it to be waiting in our rooms when we returned. One of our rooms had the Castle view and the dual aspect was spectacular in the evenings particularly. Breakfast was absolutely delicious too....

the Rutland hotel was just great in every respect. The staff and their service are excellent, conscientious without being oppressive. It is perfectly located to 'walk the city' night or day. Our room was large airy and very comfortable. Breakfast was so delicious and very ample for our days exploring the city on 2 very cold days.

All the personal (for exemple, Hannah, among others) are the best. It is also the first time of our lives that at a hotel accepted (without an extra charge) to serve a breakfast in our room at 4.45 am because our departure was due to 7 am. A unique experience!

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
