I have travelled extensively around Scotland and as an English man, love the place. But why do so many of the Guest houses and the odd hotel choose to start serving breakfast at 9am. Half the day has gone by the time you have finished your breakfast, if you can wait that long! "Claremont Hotel is one of these places...

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend while house hunting in the city and selected The Claremont on cost and location alone. The booking was late and as such only a twin room was available. The owner was really helpful and friendly and the location of the hotel only 15 minutes walk from the city centre. The hotel...

If you are looking for a place that is cheap and cheerful this is the place to go. It's not new or modern. It's clean. Alex the owner could not be more helpful. We were on a 40 th birthday girls night away. Alex opened up the bar and function room for us both during the afternoon and when we...

Set in a quiet crescent to the north of Edinburgh this grand old house appears about 300 years old. It seems to be built on a hillside so the walk up the back stairs from the private car park might be a bit daunting with loads of luggage and/or kids. The easy answer is to park on the road outside...

This little gem is a super cute property with comfortable beds, secure parking and free breakfast included. The owner was so friendly and approachable. Very close to the Edinburgh castle if you are in Scotland for sight seeing. Also a great little fish and shop just around the corner if you are looking for a low key night in. I...

“Try to get a room on either the top floor or the basement levels. This is because the hotel caters for groups and you may be distrubed by guests returning to their rooms in the early hours. But beware the hotel does not have a lift. So be prepares for a long haul with your bags up and down the great many stairs. Our room were located adjacent to eath other at basement level. I hope we did not cause any disturbance to the other hotel guests? The bar and function rooms are also located in the basement. But noise was never an issue even though the bar will remain open for as long as hotel guest require. Out roon was located at the front of the building below pavement level. so there were no view to be enjoyed. however rooms to the rear of the building have views out to the north towards Lieth. This because ythe hotel is built on a hill. Our room slept 4 and was very large by any standards. All rooms have en-suit bathrooms. Ours was very large. In fact it was bigger than some modern hotel rooms I have stayed in. Both the room and bathroom were clean. The room also had the basics of tea/coffee facilities, Sky TV and wardrobe/bedside cabinets. The building is very old and would benefit greatly from redecoration throughout. But that said it added to the charecter of the building. As you would expect from this style of hotel, being a number of former adjacent individual houses brought together to form a hotel the layout is a bit like a rabbit warren. But again this adds a certain charm. My only critisisum was the lack of ventilation. I like to sleep with the window open. But for security reasons the two large windows could only be opened around 50mm. Better than nothhing.”
