Second time around within one year, same place, same excellent Standard, art and style at a premium, rates match the value you get, easy walk to Center of Old and New Town. Indoor Garage only 10 minutes on foot. French Restaurant Le Escargot Bleu within easy reach and great place , without being expensive. Highly recommendable hotel.

The room was amazing; clean, fresh and luxurious. Champagne on arrival was an added bonus, as was the higher rate room as we had booked the best available room. Highlights were the free standing bath, great view onto the street and across Edinburgh and the beautiful artwork and decoration within the hotel.

I stayed here with my partner and our three year old son. All the staff were lovely - they provided recommendations on where to eat (the restaurant does not serve evening meals) and were thoroughly pleasant throughout. The cocktails are decent, the breakfast (as others have said) is fantastic. The room itself was spacious and comfortable with everything we could...

Stayed for 1 night in April, our room was very spacious and clean plus all of the fittings had a nice modern appearance to them. The staff are very helpful and attentive, we were undecided where to dine and the lady we asked was very knowledgeable about the local eateries, of which there are many. The breakfast was one of...

Stayed here for just the one night as we were in the city. The hotel is in a fantastic location just off princes street with a 5 min walk or so. Really friendly staff who were always happy to assist with anything. Lovely terrace outside which we enjoyed with the lovely weather we had! Highly recommended

This is a lovely, small 'town house' with a very friendly atmosphere. Colourful modern art on the walls. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. Our room was very well appointed, looking out over gardens to the rear of the property and very quiet. The rooms at the front have some noise from cars driving on the cobbled street. Super...

Excellent boutique hotel. We visited for my wife's birthday and we were not disappointed. Twelve superb individual rooms with beautiful décor. Excellent beds, bath and furnishings plus glorious collection of art displayed. Very friendly and helpful staff and all set in a superb quiet location just 10 mins from centre of Edinburgh behind Calton Hill.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
24 Royal Terrace is a new hotel on one of Edinburgh’s most iconic Georgian terraces. Designed by the famous architect William Playfair in the 1820s, the 16-bedroom hotel retains the original architectural features of the building whilst introducing a bold contemporary interior design. Situated in close proximity to the town centre, the hotel backs onto the Royal Gardens of Holyrood Palace and Calton Hill with commanding views across to the Firth of Forth. All rooms offer beautiful views, either of the hotel’s garden or onto the majestic Royal Terrace itself. Suited to both business and leisure guests, the rooms vary from spacious apartment suites to affordable single rooms. Our elegant rooms are designed for comfort and relaxation with stylish contemporary fabrics, heavenly beds, White Company toiletries, plump white towels and Egyptian cotton sheets. Mixing the old with the new, the suites comprise antique furniture with modern touches. Some rooms feature cast iron baths in the bedroom, whilst others have rain showers in the bathroom. All bedrooms offer wireless and wired internet connection to ensure guests can tap into our high speed internet, have Samsung Smart TVs fitted with amplified Soundbars and Apple Airport Express, enabling guests to stream audio and video from their own devices or from their NetFlix accounts, plus USB power sockets for charging devices. The entertainment isn’t limited to the bedroom; in the en-suite bathrooms, guests can control their music from a keypad to play over high quality Blucube speakers. The hotel features a private, original art collection including works by Scottish artists John Bellany, Peter Howson, Steven Campbell, Henry Kondracki and John Bratby. 24 Royal Terrace’s facilities include rt’s bar, a stylish meeting point for guests serving a carefully selected menu, from Scottish and continental breakfast in the morning, to tapas in the evening. A champagne afternoon tea is also on offer at rt’s between 2 and 5pm daily. rt’s serves a fine range of whiskies, playing to Royal Terrace’s historical nickname, ‘Whisky Row’, a reference to the number of spirit merchants who lived on the terrace when it was newly built. ... more   less
