On our recent trip to Europe we stayed at this lovely hotel, just a few minutes walk from some of the cities main attractions, the hotel has a distinctive exterior and a modern contemporary interior, the staff were excellent and most helpful when it came to showing us what the best things to do were in the city, we would...

Dear patrick k, Thank you for your kind review of our hotel. It was pleasing to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you felt it represented value for money, especially as you were probably staying in a number of hotels during your travels through Europe. Many thanks for your recommendation and I hope your other destinations...

This Hotel is central located. Our room Nr. 312 was very noisy of traffic. Even when you close the windows. It was clean and furniture and bathroom were new renovated. I can recommend the Edinburgh City Hotel if you get a quiet room.

Dear gpollner, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for leaving a review. I appreciate your balanced feedback and it is pleasing to hear that you enjoyed the standards of our rooms and would recommend our hotel. Obviously it was disappointing to read that you felt your room was noisy. All of our rooms have secondary glazing to...

Good location and decent room except that it has two twin beds shoved together. Never understand why euro hotels don't catch up to the rest of the world and have king or queen beds for couples. Tired of my feet hanging over the end of the bed as well. Real size beds for real people please Breakfast was good nice...

I always look forward to staying at this hotel. The welcome, staff, rooms and food are excellent. This is probably due to the superb hands on management and their ability to keep well trained staff some of whom have been with the hotel for 8 or 9 nine years which is unusual in the hospitality sector. The freshly cooked breakfasts...

Our family of five stayed in two rooms for two nights in this hotel. It is better than average but not really "very good". The staff members were really helpful and the rooms were relatively clean. The beds were comfortable, but the duvets were too small for two people sharing. We ended up on the first floor in the disabled...

We stayed here right after staying in London, and our room was easily double the size. Everything was clean and well kept, but the hotel could use a spruce up of the common areas. Don't let that stop you though, this is a nice property. It's just a few blocks form a market, and a few more to the grass...

Dear markafeit, Thank you for your kind comments having stayed with us last month. We've stayed here a couple of times - 2 adults, two kids and asked for the family room, which has a separate alcove (almost like 2 separate rooms). We booked a City hotel deal that included breakfast; and one time had the 1/2 board option (breakfast and dinner). Food was copious and good; kids could not finish their breakfast or...

Edinburgh City Hotel is my 'go-to' hotel for the Six Nations - great location in the Grassmarket and excellent value for money. Stayed here when in Edinburgh for a dismal England v Scotland rugby match at Murrayfield. Hotel was the only one in Edinburgh with sensible pricing that hadn't been over inflated to rip off rugby fans - room was very nice and bar was a good laugh. Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
