The Hotel is situated in the middle of Princes Street and it is well worth paying a little extra for a room with a 'Castle View'. We arrived by train which makes the station extremely convenient for Waverley station. The breakfast was excellent; dinner reasonable but limited choice. Service throughout the hotel is very friendly and efficient. Perhaps the rooms...

The hotel is situated right in the heart of the city on princes street and is easy to find. Arrived before check in time and it was no problem to leave my luggage. I was checked in by a friendly member staff and given all the usual hotel information. I was in room 647 and it's a compact room but...

I did not stay in this hotel but instead came in to get help getting to my friends as my phone had died and I couldn't remember the address. Both Liam and Graham were happy to help me charge my phone and use their computer. Although insignificant, this kindness reflects the kind of person you want looking after you, the...

Our room was at the front of the building on the top floor overlooking Princes Street and the Castle etc; so the view was outstanding. The room was lovely and clean and of a extremely high standard with very friendly and helpful staff and the food was fab too....

Stayed for two nights during the 6 Nations rugby tournament, so the hotel was full. First impressions are not good as it looks very dated and in dire need of a refit. Had trouble checking in as had no record of our booking, which was eventually resolved. Had a room on the 6th floor that had a view of the...

Great views from 6th floor. Breakfast was good. Central location for old and New Town. Rooms had a small shared balcony/window.Great views over city. Bathroom ok. Staff very polite /helpful. Overall this hotel is a bit dated but this is reflected in the price. We would return if visitng Edinburgh again.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
