The Braid Hills Hotel offers a mixed experience, with its prime location and scenic views often praised by travelers who also appreciate the convenient transport links and proximity to attractions. While the hotel's amenities, including delicious food and clean rooms, are a hit among many, opinions on value and room quality are divided.
Some guests find the hotel stylish and charming, yet others are disappointed by outdated decor and maintenance issues. Service quality also varies, with reports of both friendly staff and unprofessional encounters.

Detailed Reviews
We booked based on reviews and free car park plus on the bus route to the city. We were allocated a club room which is above a function room which was not in use, did mean walking outside to get to our room which for us was not a major problem. The room was fine and clean, heating didn’t work but reception sorted that on the first night, I have to say the staff were ALL excellent and friendly plus helpful so can’t understand some of the comments on here. Breakfast was buffet style and was plentiful and a decent standard.
As said bus route was great, £1.70 for a single fare into the city was great and right next to the hotel via the steps. Download the Lothian app for bus and tram and set home as the hotel it’s excellent to get the right bus back from wherever you are in the city.
Would defiantly use this hotel again.

Stayed at this lovely hotel with my partner, we had a classic room that was spotlessly clean.
The bed was comfortable and the room had everything we needed tea coffee and biscuits, toiletries in the bathroom.
There was a hairdryer and even an ironing board.
We had the evening meal and we both had steak and it was absolutely beautiful cooked perfectly.
My partner had the ice cream for dessert and he said its the nicest ice cream he has ever had the coconut flavor.
Staff were all pleasant.
Will definitely be coming again.

Just to let everyone know this hotel acted with complete honesty and professionalism.
We had to cancel two rooms for three nights on the no refund terms and conditions due to restrictions.
That was not the case when I enquired I was offered another date at any time or a complete refund.
Claire Oaks handled our request and the money was back on our card in less than an hour. Well done Claire you were terrific.
At the beginning when we added another room a few days later even though they were nearly full they shuffled the rooms around so we did not have to move. We will definitely stay there when the wedding takes place in the future. Well done to the reception staff and Claire.

Booked two months in advance for a 4 night stay. So you first arrive and you’re told where your room is but no one shows you how to get there or offer to take your luggage to the room for you. So you’ll spend a few minute trying to figure out where you room actually is (I seen several newly checked in guest wandering the halls looking for their room, I had to point them in the right and I don’t even work here). Next you’ll get to your room and see there’s barely enough space to walk around the bed and no table to sit at for studies or food plus the view looked into a car park, disappointing to say the least especially considering it was booked two months prior. You then go to put clothes away and discover your wardrobe doors are broken, my partner couldn’t even move the doors. I had to struggle with it to eventually get half open. In the morning regardless if you would like to sleep past 9:30 am you will be woken if not by guests and slamming doors but by cleaning staff shouting to each other down the hall. Not for light sleepers, not that I am a light sleeper but I slept terribly here and so did my partner it’s so loud I’m looking forward to go home for a decent sleep. On the Friday night the hotel hosted a function and had guests heavily dunk still drinking at the bar past 3am after which they decided to party in the double room next to us till even later. No sleep for us till 5am and our free waking system of shouting staff and guest will wake us within a few hours.
The staff seemed they could care less, not even a smile from reception when you walk in. Felt like when I went to inform the reception of the cleaning staff shouting the woman at reception had a smug look on her face and didn’t even apologies. Having stayed in several best westerns in Edinburgh I am disappointed extremely by this branch, I would say DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I definitely won’t be back and have lost a lot of trust for the brand.

We booked this last minute on secret escape (not exactly a luxury), firstly the staff are lovely and to be praised. However, it must be a management issue, they are so short staffed! We booked a table for dinner for 7.30pm with our main course arriving at 9.30pm! I just couldnt eat any of it at that time of night! My husbands fish and chips were definitely the fish and chips the waiter had tried to deliver to the neighbouring table 20 minutes prior (wrong order)! It was like rubber after being kept warm. The dining room is split into to, evening meals at one side and breakfast at the other, rather than this with everyone squashed into one side during covid, should it not be spread out? Ie using the whole room for dinner then the whole room for breakfast? The tables are set out for dinner ready and the glasses and cutlery are on the tables that everyone has to walk past to get to their breakfast table? Surely this is not covid compliant? The poor waitress at breakfast was rushed off her feet, I appreciate it was first day back, but we felt very sorry for her. Again the whole restaurant should be utilised for breakfast? I also think more training is needed, as I say the waitress really was lovely, but she put us at a table that had been used and said "I will just clean this", others we stayed at wiped not only the table but chairs too with discinfectant. She removed the dishes, left a glass unused by the previous guest (for our use) Also the milk jugs are left on the table for the whole of the breakfast period, these should be changed and cleaned?, The room itself was nothing special, we have stayed at Best Westerns before and found this very small in comparison. Also we felt a bit skimpy? ie, one bottle of water between us, one 2 pack biscuits between us? The room was so dark, I appreciate it is an old hotel but to be put on secret escapes? Also other hotels we stayed at last year spread the guests out around the hotel due to covid? We had people beside us and opposite? It just seemed in general, yes there was hand gel dotted around, but covid restrictions are more than just hand gel, and even then, hand gel should be on the tables too?? Reducing the staff numbers is not the answer. We were very patient, both while waiting for dinner and queuing for breakfast, others were not so (which I do find rude), but this leads to ill feeling and it is not the staff's fault. They work very hard. The barman and the waiter in the evening were lovely and very friendly, as was the breakfast waitress.

Dear andreagG109JE Thank you for taking the time and effort to post your on-line review following your recent stay with us. We are disappointed to learn that there were some parts of your stay that let down the overall experience and for that we sincerely apologise. Our team have been through training prior to opening however dealing with the public after a long time in lock down for the first time can be daunting and I can only apologise if we got that wrong for you during your stay. We are making positive strides in our service and deliver under the current restrictions and will continue to be better in our service delivery. We do take all our guests comments extremely seriously, as this helps us to understand where improvements can be made and we will use this to improve the service we deliver to our guests. I am grateful for your taking the time to share your observations and hope that we may welcome you back to the Braid Hills Hotel in the future. Edinburgh is such a wonderful and impressive city. Vibrant is often used to characterise the energy and soul of a city and in this case it is an accurate description.
Braid Hills Hotel occupies a vantage point with splendid views. Unfortunately some rooms on the ground floor have no view whatsoever. We expressed our disappointment in our room and it's outlook and were re-allocated rooms without hesitation by staff who go that extra mile to ensure guest satisfaction. This despite the hotel being fully booked due in part to the Edinburgh Fringe.
Staff are exceptional, restaurant offers a wide range of freshly cooked and tasty meals at a value for money price in a friendly yet busy environment. The erratic internet was a frustration for those in my party who needed internet access for business purposes. And the Classic Double Rooms are clean but on the small side. Those rooms on the other side of the corridor are sumptuous and luxurious.
I recommend this hotel but with these reservations.

Hotel is in a very good location if travelling by car with a good and inexpensive bus route into Edinburgh. The hotel has always provided a very good service and the bar/food is of a good standard.
The public areas are roomy and comfortable.
It is good value if attending Rugby Internationals as many hotels in Edinburgh are extortionate in their pricing and I understand from friends who have stayed in them ,provide poor service as well.

My wife and I had a very relaxing 3 day break and stayed from 10th Nov leaving on the 12th. It was our wedding anniversary. Booked through "myhotelbreak" we had 3 breakfasts and 1 evening meal
We checked into room 205, but as it faced the rear asked for a room change. There were no issues at reception and were very helpful. We were given room 314 and were very pleased with it.
We had read negative reviews about aspects of the hotel but were more than pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel is dated in areas but this did not reflect the standard of service nor quality of food. It is a very relaxing hotel with character and all staff, in particular, housekeeping were particularly welcoming and helpful.
The breakfast was buffet and was first class , the evening meal, served in the same area as breakfast was exceptional
The location is also good free car parking, with excellent bus service into the city. Bus stop is right outside the hotel and the bus stop is named " Braid Hills Hotel Bus Stop", which shows the high regard for the hotel
I would go so far as to say that this is possibly one of the best hotels that we have stayed in when visiting Edinburgh .It has the usual Best Western high standards has the Its relaxing, clean homely and has character.
We highly recommend this hotel

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cosy bar.
Breakfasts for guests with dietary requirements can be cooked to order (loved my gluten free cooked breakfasts).
I have mobility problems and I booked our 2 night break knowing that the hotel did not have a lift but thought that I would be able to manage if I requested a low floor room and took my time. However I did not manage very well at all as our room was up several flights of stairs. The bathroom did not have any grab rails.
I asked reception if the hotel had any disabled friendly rooms and was told that they did not but were thinking about providing bath chairs.
All other aspects of our stay were perfect.

Yes, there are steps leading to a main road. The bud from Edinburgh drops off here and across the road is the bus to Edinburgh. It’s the number 11 and it costs £2 each way. Every 15 to 20 mins. So easy !!!
Not sure. It is adjacent to the hotel
Yes there’s adequate parking
