Pleasant staff, clean and located pretty centrally........ A tough walk to City Centre if you in one direction and a pretty flat walk in the other...... A bustling square outside hotel, pubs and chippers out of hotel and to the right....

Grass market is great place to be based for a city break in Edinburgh. Good food and pubs on the doorstep and most city centre sites within 10 minutes walk. The Apex City is a modern hotel right in the middle of Grassmarket. Smooth check in lead to a spacious, modern room. Good decor and all the facilities you might...

I spent good nights at the hotel. The room was clean and the bedding and pillows were superb. The staff were always friendly and the breakfast was delicious. I ate in the hotel restaurant once and the meal and service couldn't be faulted.

We spent four nights here during February, the location gave an ease of access the main parts of the City. The hotel accommodated our request for a quiet room. I do get "the hump" as Mrs MM refers to it, when an establishment trumps up some excuse not to provide a customer with a reasonable request. Our room was on...

Got to the hotel about 10am which is obviously too early to check in so we went around the city and was told to come back at 230 to check in, we got back and was told it still wasn't ready so we were given a free drinks token which was nice. About 10mins later the receptionist came over and...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
