Had a lovely weekend. Ate in the hotel one night was very good. Disappointed with the view from our room, wasn't one, just a brick wall but otherwise hotel was very good. . Enjoyed sitting in the lounge and having a drink after a long day walking. Very comfortable.

My daughter and her partner have season tickets for the Scotland home games but were unable to go for the Argentine game so let us use the tickets. I booked the Old Waverley despite having a bad experience there several years ago. We spent five nights there and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and the...

Chose this hotel for location near the station and on a friends recommendation. I was not disappointed! Straight up from the station ,across the road and into the hotel. Excellent room on the third floor overlooking the Christmas market and the carnival rides, I thought this might be a problem at night but the rides stopped at 10pm. Lovely rooms...

Booked this hotel by mistake, I thought I had booked the one across the way :( Hotel is in a good spot central to all the city has to offer, and only 10 minutes from the Royal Mile. Our room looked as though it had been recently refurbished and overlooked The Scott monument and the Christmas Market. The lounge bar worth...

The hotel was in a fantastic location, not far from Waverly station. The staff were very helpful. It was practical yet old fashioned and could do with being done-up however I have no other complaints. It was clean too.

I thought I was back in 1999. The décor is appalling. Tired and very dated. The view from the bar was far more preferable than the interior. In fairness the lady behind the bar was pleasant enough and smiley, however, the experience was totally forgettable

A very central place, clean and tidy staff very friendly, on the high street but we didn't hear the traffic as we were on 5th floor, with a view of the scot monument well worth a stay as I said it was very central with the tour buses across the road walking distance to train station and a view of...

I went for afternoon tea with my friend. We really didn't want anything too large or expensive as wasn't special occasion or anything. The serving was adequate for £10 (for 2 Afternoon teas). We got choice of sandwiches, scones and cakes. The size of the sandwiches was not the usual dainty size but large normal sized and the scones were...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
