We had the unfortunate experience that a double booking went through & we were charged twice for the same stay... Ouch very painful. ! We contacted the hotel who dealt with our issue very professionally & escalated it to The Hotel General Manager Helen Gallagher who resolved the matter quickly & arranged a full refund of the amount to our...

We stayed three nights and grew to like it more and more. All rooms have been modernised and have everything you could want. There is still work to be done on the entrance and some back spaces. We had very quiet rooms on fifth floor but it could be noisy if you are near the bar or face Princes Street....

Our room was in a section of the hotel that was being worked on. It was being painted as well as doorways being modified. We arrived too early to check in so we left our bags and headed out for the day. When we returned we were handed our key and directed to a set of stairs to our room....

The entrance to this hotel could do with a bit of a makeover (can't really see that it is a hotel entrance) but once inside, the place is quite a pleasant surprise. Very grand and tastefully decorated. Friendly greeting by the reception staff. Our room was up on the 2nd floor, although for some reason the lift says 'First Floor'...

The hotel is located near Waverly Station, therefore very central and a perfect base for explorations in Edinburgh and outskirts. Reading older reviews, one might be happy to hear that they are actually renovating the place. But, unfortunately, construction work is yet far from finished, so expect some minor disturbance by heavy machinery if in room during daytime. Our room...

At first glance you would doubt yourself where the entrance to the hotel is, there is an entrance with signs for the restaurants but not the hotel name signs. Once you stepped into the corridor you need to either take the stairs up one floor or take the lift to the lobby floor for check in. Room wasn't ready in...

We stayed here for one day/night to visit Edinburgh Castle and were not disappointed. It's location is excellent esp for those travelling by train as it's directly opposite Waverley train station and car drivers have a very quick 5 minute walk to the 2 car parks which the hotel has deals with. When we stayed we asked for one of...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
