After booking what was advertised a Boutique Hotel and arriving after a 5 hour drive. I checked into room 404 to be greeted by a shabby old worn room, with filthy finger prints all over the bathroom ceiling and generally not clean. I reported the TV not working to reception only to be told it was broken, so I asked...

I viewed pictures of hotel before booking and on seeing our room was not disappointed. The room was lovely and the maid service was excellent. The area was perfect for a short walk into the centre and central for all attractions etc. I was really looking forward to a pleasant stay. I booked the hotel through Agoda it stated that...

Me and my partner stayed here earlier this year. We got a fantastic upgrade, the room and bathroom was huge, very modern and comfortable. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The location is great as its a short walk to shops, bars and restaurants. Would highly recommend.

I was taken here for my birthday and not one for modern hotels this was fabulous. A lovely member of staff booked us in (whilst I was admiring the wallpaper) and took us along to our room (again I was paying more attention to the decor than where I was going). We walked down to corridors and a small flight...

I booked an executive double room for my girlfriends birthday and the room was huge with beautiful high ceilings- the bathroom was also a great size. The website advertised robes and slippers which were not in the room upon arrival but we were provided with these when we asked reception. The room had everything we needed- ironing board, trouser press,...

Stayed for 3 nights whilst visiting the city. Hotel has a good location being only a few minutes walk from the city centre and its great selection of shops, restaurants and bars. A really pleasant stay with all the staff we encountered fabulous and very friendly. We'd read some poor reviews regards the breakfast so didn't have high expectations but...

At the time I made the booking for this hotel, I originally, did not realise that my wife and I would be visiting Edinburgh and staying the night when the Scots were going to decide on the state of the Union! But we were visiting for other reasons. Since we had been disappointed with another hotel recently, I decided we...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
