A historic atmosphere in classic surroundings added to a general pleasant feeling of this visit. The city has such a rich history and the Royal Scots Club s gives an ideal platform to explore that history from.

We chose this hotel as it had a family room with 2 single beds and one double, with an en suite bathroom. A taxi delivered us from the airport for £20 without pre booking which was good for four people and four cases. A warm welcome and enjoyed lovely sandwiches at the bar followed by meeting with family in the...

A tried and tested formula which works well, we have always been well looked after at the club. The meal was well presented and the wine at sensible prices. A convenient location for most.of our guests.

Charming accommodation, thoughtfully modernised. Comfortable and clean but a lot of doors and corridors to negotiate! Easy to get to city centre. WiFi in my room dropped out every few minutes but was much better in the suite where I attended a meeting.

Specifically asked for a four-poster bedroom to get the full experience and our expectations were definitely met. Loved the majestic feeling of the place and our room. Should definitely have breakfast there - they serve a sizely portion of the salmon with scrambled eggs and the dining area was very pristine and definitely worth the meal there.

Stayed for 2 nights breakfast was great staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was abit small but for 2 nights we didn't have much luggage so space wasn't a huge issue. Disappointed that the restaurant is so formal we came over for a rugby match and didn't bring formal clothing(shirt, tie&jacket). We had to go elsewhere for food.

The Royal Scots Club in the heart of Edinburgh's new town is a breath of fresh air for those seeking to avoid the faceless corporate nature of modern hotels. Upon opening the door, with a real key, I entered a spacious and elegant room that was a delight. There was a sofa and tub armchair, a desk and a very...

I was here on business. My room was beautiful, I loved that there was hot chocolate in the room. My room was a great size. The hotel is really close to Waverly, about a 10 minute walk. The staff were friendly. My breakfast was great, I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. I stayed for dinner and would say they...

The quality of the only dinner we had at the club was not satisfactory. Bothe the quality of the food and in particular the presentation of the dishes were below standard. However, the breakfasts we had were splendid - good presentations, good quality of food and excellent service. As all the other experiences of the club were so positive it...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
