While the rooms are considered basic and sometimes lacking in maintenance, the staff's friendliness and helpfulness frequently receive positive mentions. Cleanliness is generally good, though some guests have encountered issues.

Detailed Reviews
We needed a change after shielding since March. We came to Edinburgh for 3 nights.
Due to COVID and the festival not taking place Edinburgh is much more affordable than usual. Got a very good deal for this hotel.
I chose it partly due to location as I love Edinburgh old town.
The hotel was clean and fresh. It was explained that due to COVID the breakfast buffet and cafe bar would not be open. We were also told it would mean our room would not be entered by staff during our stay. We were able to get anything we needed at reception where the staff were helpful and friendly. I frequently replenished coffee and milk and got fresh supplies of towels. Staff were friendly and helpful.
We had a large family room at the back on the 4th floor. It had been cleaned to a high standard and despite other reviews and us having the window open there was no noise at night.
We had a huge king size bed which was very comfy and a camp bed. Tea coffee making facilities and a good sized flat screen tv.
The bathroom also clean had a good shower over the bath.
In the morning each day we had a breakfast box which we ate in our room. It was lovely and cool straight from the fridge.
The hotel was easy walking distance for most attractions and bus stops. I would stay again if I got a good price.

When we arrived at the hotel we had an easy check in, the room had everything we needed, you can ask the reception for a hairdryer/iron, even though the room wasn't touched over the 4 days we were there you can help yourself to tea/coffee/milk from reception, the only thing I would like was for our bin to be emptied and the sheets changed half way through our stay. The room was at the front of the building which meant lots of road noise, so ask for a room at the back if you are a light sleeper.
Breakfast was extra, there was lots of choice for hot and cold food to eat as much as you like, reception booked us a time to reduce the amount of people at the same time.
Location was very good, 10-15 minutes to the train station, it was on the Royal Mile so lots of choice with pubs and places to eat. Be aware of the cobbled streets if you have had a drink or 2! Talking of drinks I think the bar was a bit overpriced, nearly £13 for 2 drinks...maybe that's Edinburgh prices?
You do get what you pay for, however Travelodge as a brand as I'm sure with other chains make their money with added extras like WIFI, Breakfast etc.
Edinburgh is a really great city, I think next time I would choose a local hotel.

Staying from July 18 the many precautions make you feel safe as staff are professional and attentive all through the stay. The dining room is temporarily closed but there are plenty outdoor or indoor places to eat nearby which also take precautions. The room is not entered while you are there to lessen contact which is a great idea. Car park at rear and multi storey not far too. Prices are also fantastic in this quiet period.

I've been saying "it's a Travelodge" to people for years when they complain about the amenities presented to them. I always feel people seem to expect high end services for low end prices, which is ridiculous. But this week I stayed at the OYO Lomond Park Hotel the night before I drove to Edinburgh to stay at this Travelodge. The OYO provided us with a sofa in our room, free parking and free, unlimited WiFi. And they charged us less per night for our stay. I'm starting to feel Travelodge might not even be good for a budget hotel, and next time I visit somewhere new I'll be scouring the local hotel listings for a not-Travelodge.
So what's my problem with them?
1) Single berth accommodation for 2
How much, really, would it cost Travelodge to provide 2 chairs in a room when they know that 2 people are going to be staying in a room for 2 nights? I'm sure we could have requested a 2nd chair, but we should not have to make a special request to be accommodated by a hotel.
2) One cup of tea.
My girlfriend likes to have milk in her tea and immediately used both of the tiny pots of milk provided for our entire stay. How much, really, would it cost Travelodge to provide a well-stocked tea/coffee station in their hotel bedrooms?
3) One towel each.
We both have long hair. Drying our bodies and hair with a single, thin towel is not ideal. I know we could probably have requested additional towels, but how much, really, would it cost Travelodge to provide an extra towel per guest?
4) Broken key card
Every time I stay at a Travelodge, my room key only works for the first night. The next night I have to go to reception and ask them to reactivate the room key. It's like they only want me to stay one night, which makes me feel unwelcome. They have staff who apologise with a smile each and every time they fix this issue, but that does not resolve the issue.
5) Unwelcome for breakfast
While I was eating my breakfast, I went to get more orange juice, and somebody took away my breakfast and my coffee. I was made to feel unwelcome because I was dining alone. This is horrendous and shows a contempt for customers. I didn't bother raising this issue with the staff because they weren't going to bring my food back to me, so I got myself a new coffee and left as quickly as possible, having eaten less breakfast than I wanted (I was literally halfway through eating a sandwich).
6) £34 to park my car
The parking charge of £17 per 24 hours is abominable. It makes Travelodge look like a greedy, penny-pinching organisation that doesn't care about their customers. And I think I'm finally realising this is the truth of the matter. The front desk staff said the carpark was operated by another organisation, so the fees had nothing to do with them. But I searched the Scottish Land Register and discovered (as expected) the carpark lies within the hotel's boundary, so they could provide fee parking if they wished.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our Edinburgh Central hotel. We are sorry to learn that you did not find your room to be of great value, and we are sorry to learn of the disappointment caused by other aspects of your stay. We feel that we offer all that is needed for a comfortable night’s stay, this includes a clean room, comfortable bed, tea and coffee facilities, flat screen T.V and an en suite bathroom. We do not provide extras which other hotels may provide so we can keep our room rates low however we understand your frustration and we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We appreciate all the feedback we receive and our Hotel Managers regularly review their TripAdvisor reviews in order to fix any issues raised and pass on feedback to their team. Thank you once again and we do hope you will stay with us in the future.

Where to start ??
No heating in the Bathroom at all so January in Scotland and no heating after you get out shower is NOT good.
The complimentary shower gel well where do I start with this??? I stupidly used it and it stung and smelt like a cross of bleach and sewage. Took some down to reception and it was the assistant manager who came out to see us and he smelt it and said that should not be in the dispenser that's a cleaning product I will go up and swill it through and put the correct shower gel in.
The pod drinks Machine just leaks and floods the desk and floor.
Toilet door has no lock on and door does not close properly.
The heater in the bedroom is a small on the wall one and just about warms the room
No phone in rooms so can not call reception .
Breakfast was cold
The door in corridor every time it closed the door to our room vibrated and disturbed us.
However we did not have any problem with outside noise
If this is the plus quality I would hate to see normal travel lodge and it's standards

We love this hotel and have stayed several times in Edinburgh. The location is perfect, just being off the Royal Mile and the rooms suit us providing for 2 adults and 2 kids... not many places offer this option at such a great price. It does limit the space in the room, but Edinburgh is such a great city, we don't spend much time there. The breakfast is great and we have always found the staff friendly and helpful.

Reasonably priced hotel for such a great location. Spotless and well maintained, even though the hotel is on a busy road there was no noise at all during the night. There is tea and coffee in the room but no bottles of water, the wifi is free only for the first 30 mins then charges apply. To my surprise there was no hairdryer!! which you would expect even in a budget hotel? We went to David Bann restaurant across the road for dinner, which was fab and had breakfast at The Holyrood coffee shop - out the hotel across the road and turn right - just a few mins walk, cosy fresh food with great coffee (cash only). Overall a really good stay and would book again.

+1
Stayed here with my partner and 2 kids to go see the lion king in the playhouse . We had 2 standard rooms and each room was spotless , fresh and looked newly decorated . Comfy bed and bonus we had a bath . The decor inside the hotel was lovely as it’s been done up . We were very impressed and location wise it was perfect as just around the corner from the royal mile and a short walk to the playhouse . Excellent value for money and just as nice or even better than some of the city centre overpriced hotels we have stayed in before when seeing shows . We will definitely return . 10 out of 10

This is a great basic hotel, which accommodated us needing 3 separate beds. The location is excellent but don't bother with their own carpark, it's usually full and quite small for big cars. The NCP is just round the corner and you can get a discount card from the hotel front desk so you can park for 24hr for £13.50.
Everything is within walking distance and the only down side is the constant road noise, but that is to be expected in a location like this.
The breakfast was awful, although we paid in advance there were no breakfast slots on one of the days. After the 1st breakfast we got a refund on the others because it was so bad, take a walk into the mile and you can get some really fab food instead.
If you don't bother with the WIFI or breakfast then this is a great value hotel and definitely one to use if you want to explore Edinburgh on foot.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It is situated within minutes of the Royal Mile, so very central for many places in Edinburgh.
We were greeted warmly upon arrival, and were in our room within minutes. The room was small, but clean, however the noise from outside was very loud, so we had to sleep with our windows closed. This made the room very hot, but at least a fan was provided.
For myself and my partner the bed was very uncomfortable, so we didn’t sleep great, but clearly different people prefer different types of bed, so don’t let this put you off. If you are looking for a well-priced centrally situated hotel, this hotel is definitely worth a look.
NB. Hand sanitiser is provided within the hotel, and masks must be worn in public areas.
