Castle Rock Hostel is located in the heart of Edinburgh and within walking distance of all attractions. The hostel has all amenities that you would want when traveling. However, a lot of the people that stayed while I was there were very immature and loud. I was awoken many times by loud, ignorant people who had too much to drink...

I had the best experience staying here for New Years. Hands down, the best hostel in Edinburgh. I stayed in a 8 dorm bed room with a fantastic view of the castle out one of the windows. The staff were all fun and friendly. The common areas were a great place to hang out. The only policy I disliked was...

Castle Rock provides directions from the Edinburgh airport on their website so it was incredibly easy to navigate to and from the airport to the hostel. Their directions were easy and we had no trouble finding the hostel itself. To our amazement, the hostel is located practically on the Royal Mile where sites such as Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral,...

one of the best hostel I went to. Perfect location, beautiful area, just under the castle. Friendly staff, they give us some good advise. Good facilities and really clean. We were in a 12 beds dorm. It was really comfortable and there is free locker as well. And what a beautiful building.

I had a lovely stay at the hostel which has a great location near the castle. We did a fieldtrip to Edinburgh and most of our trips were at walking distance of hostel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They also allow visitors to join you in the common rooms. They have such a lovely common room. They offer...

This is the third Hostel I stayed at during my 3 week trip in Europe. Unfortunately, I only stayed one night. But the impression leads me to this conclusion; this hostel is one of the best I have ever experienced. Room = This room was a 10+ person room. However, the SPACE was absolutely the best I have ever seen....

I stayed at this hostel for a few nights and had a great time. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm and found it to be very good. The room was clean and each bed had individual lights, electrical plugs, and its own storage locker. The bathrooms were also nice and kept very clean. This hostel has numerous very nice...

Amazing view of the castle and the hills on the other side, very cool hostel, I would have appreciated a in-house bar though! Very clean and kind of comfortable beds, very good breakfast too for £1.50 only!

I really enjoyed my stay here. I can't say enough about the absolute perfect location which was easy walking to anywhere on the Castle end of the Royal Mile. I found the hostel to be clean with a funky atmosphere and very friendly staff. I also felt extremely secure with numerous locked doors between me and anyone else as well...

Amazing location (view from the hostel front is the castle and the room I was in had a lovely city view), secure access to hostel and rooms, friendly staff and very clean (even the dorm rooms!). There are various common areas to suit your mood: a quiet room, chill out with music room and main common room. A huge kitchen...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
