I stayed here over Hogmany (Scottish new year celebrations - if you haven't been do it!!) Dec 15/Jan 16 We found the hostel to be very welcoming, with a free shot of whiskey on entry! I think that was just because it was Dec 30th! It was quite clean, not too noisy apart from actual new years - great party...

Booked 2 nights, ended up staying 8. Awesome location, great facilities and friendly staff. Couldn't ask for much more during my time in Edinburgh. As a solo traveller I found it really easy to meet people here and had a great few nights out on the pub crawl!

This place is close to everything if you're looking to check out some of the most popular spots in Edinburgh. I traditional don't like to stay so close to all the touristy things but I admit that the convenience of the location was so nice. I stayed in the private suite which was very big and comfortable. I stayed on...

The private twin room was good, but only had two powerpoints which meant we both couldn't charge our phones and use the lamp. There was a TV but we couldn't find the remote. The walls were really thin - I could hear the guys in the room in the next door snoring. The location was great though, really central, but...

When we go to Edinburgh, we stay here. It's very close to the Royal Mile, and at the top of a couple of (steep) flights of stairs from Edinburgh Waverley station. The owner is so friendly we almost feel like part of her family now. She really does make you welcome. The best room (and I almost don't want to...

I spent there only one night in private bedroom. Room was clean and spacious. Only it was a shame that the bathroom was on another floor. Also the private rooms are in the different building, u have to cross the street to get in there.

I only stayed one night at the hostel, so maybe I was unlucky. But I found someone of the staff very rude. When I asked for help because I had problems with opening a window, the man said that I am adult enough to fix my own problem... My bunk bed really squeaked when someone moved, what made a lot...

Great location in the centre of Edinburgh. Rooms are simple but clean, and towels were included. Staying here gets you 15% off the restaurant next door, which does and excellent breakfast. Only downside is that the rooms can get stuffy so you have to keep the windows open, and being in a central location you then have to be able...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
