Exactly what you'd expect from Travelodge - a bed, desk, television, bathroom and wardrobe. All very clean and with housekeeping every day I had no complaints. The hotel is in a central location with the main train station a short walk away, the tram stop is around the corner and the Royal Mile is probably a 5-7 minute walk away....

Very central hotel, only 5 minutes from Waverley Steps (station). It is City Centre so there is some noise, if you don't know which rooms to ask for. Staff very friendly as ever, my room wasn't confirmed as ready upon arrival but only took 5 minutes. Room spotless, serviced daily, shower pressure was amazing the best I've had in a...

Excellent central location, close to all major tourist sights. Spacious and comfortable family room for family of 4 with two teenagers. Room had great views down Princes Street. Friendly staff. Possible to leave luggage in reception to collect later in the day after checking out.

My partner and I stayed here before so when I decided to bring my boys to Edinburgh I instantly booked a family room here as I knew it was the perfect location. I honestly can't fault the hotel or staff but feel I need to advise people if booking a family room the spare single beds are awful! Felt like...

Thank you so much for your review. We’re sorry to hear that you found our pull out beds to be uncomfortable. After extensive customer trials and research, these beds were selected as being the best fit for our family rooms and once again we would like to apologise this was not the case on this occasion. Following our guests feedback,...

Location of hotel was good and the staff were helpful. Pity the they were let down by the poor quality of lightning in the room. I suspect the bulbs were very early energy saving lamps and though white in colour tool time to warm up and were not suitable for reading. lack of seating in the room was also a...

Great location for Edinburgh's Royal Mile and other tourist attractions. Situated on one of the main roads just a short walk from the city. Friendly and helpful reception staff. Room very clean and shower very good. Would definitely recommend.

I stayed here for 3 nights, the location was ideal for my stay. The hotel staff were extremely help and a credit to the Travelodge chain. It was a very short walk to the railway station and the Royal Mile.

Quite small rooms, but clean functional and central location. I suppose its a prime example of you get what you pay for. Pretty cheap, but also pretty basic. The PAID wifi was very slow, the TV service was poor in that it keep losing signal for a couple of seconds and then coming back. It was reasonable clean but the...

We stayed two nights at the end of September. We were able to leave our cabin luggage before we checked in and once we had checked out. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Will definitely stay here again.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
