We really enjoyed staying at Duthus Lodge for 5 nights. A beautiful historical house with modern rooms, comfortable beds and pillows, tasty traditional English breakfast, cookies, coffee / tea, a kettle, bottles of water, clean towels every day....but the best of all was the owner and his dog. =) It was our first time to visit Edinburgh and we were...

Really nice and charming guesthouse. Breakfast was quite complete and variable. 210euros 4 people and one night. Hosts are adorable and caring. Not far from the centre (15 min walking) and a wide range of places to have dinner in the surroundings (kitchen opened until 10pm). Free parking outside on weekends and private one as well (not very big). Comfy...

One of the best B&B's we stayed in. Great location in walking distance to many attractions and good pubs, off street parking is a bonus, excellent facilities, really good breakfast and the owner's were very accommodating. Although we did not book ahead we were made to feel very welcome.

I had reserved and paid for the other B&B only to find it completely closed down for the month of January. No notice nothing! Murdo welcomed us into his B&B - BEAUTIFUL and helped us...

We stayed at Duthus Lodge during a recent visit to Edinburgh. The guest house is located in a quiet area of Edinburgh which is only a 20 minute stroll into the centre. Murdo makes sure that every aspect of your stay is what you want and need. We would have given 5 stars except for the fact that the shower...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

“When traveling in Scotland you should start looking about 4pm in order to get a room. In big cities I recommend you reserve in advance. At Duthus Lodge try to get a room overlooking the front yard.”
