When I read other reviews of this hotel I thought the colourful contemporary decor might be a bit gaudy and unwelcoming but I couldn't have been more wrong! What a serene and tasteful place this is, from the moment you walk into reception with aromatherapy candles & living flame fire to the lively & eclectic bar, everywhere is very easy...

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our birthdays, so we had high expectations. We weren't disappointed! The location is excellent- within walking distance of all the attractions of Edinburgh, and great for going out at night as there are so many fantastic places to eat and drink on hand. The staff were genuinely warm and...

A stunning location with all the main attractions close by. Too end for pricing so not sure it offers the best value for money. Staff were polite and courteous and the room was pleasant but again not sure it justified its price.

I had organised for my husband & I to stay at this 5* hotel to celebrate 10yrs together. The staff were very welcoming and attentive too. I booked a deluxe room which was beautiful & had stunning views of Arthur's seat & Salisbury crag (which is were we got engaged 9yrs ago). Unfortunately there were a few little niggles that...

Excellent service and the set lunch for 3 courses for under fifteen pounds is superb.it won't be long until Michael gets a star or two. This is our third time for lunch and we will be back. If you like whiskies try one before your...

Enjoyed an amazing overnight in a suite with a superb view of St Giles Cathedral and beyond. The staff and surroundings were faultless. Extremely good breakfast with an excellent choice of freshly cooked hot dishes. Will return for sure.

Stayed here for one very quick night. The location is superb and the rooms, lounge area and general identity of the hotel is quirky. I really liked it and wished I'd stayed there for longer. The only negative was that my room key didn't work is at 11.30pm when I checked in I had to go back to reception 3...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
