Great central location and good rooms. No frills service, which was good. However in one room some of the overhead lights would not turn off at night. The response of the person called was 'tell reception in the morning' which did not resolve the problem. There was then no real effort made adequately to compensate us for such a fundamental...

I booked 2 nights at the Fraser suites in a junior suite for my girlfriend for her birthday. Firstly it is in a great location sat just off the Royal Mile in the old town. The check in was smooth and straight forward. The room was very nice, clean and just as expected. However when we came to get a...

We stay in the Fraser Suites hotel for three nights. We were recieved by the very kind and resourceful staff. We were given a room facing the street, wich provided us with an awesome view, ideal to relax in the bed while watching the most amazing sunsets Edinburgh can offer. Everything else in the room was perfect, it was quiet...

Thoroughly enjoyed my 3 nights in Edinburgh at this establishment. A great location just off the Royal Mile with restaurants and bars close by. The room was delightfully decorated and comfortable. It has added benefit of a microwave small fridge and sink. I was able to make full use of the gymnasium. Will be returning next time.

This hotel is absolutely perfect for exploring Edinburgh's Old Town. It's around the corner from one of the main streets and very near the castle, Royal Mile, Victoria Street and lots of the city's attractions. The rooms are very nicely decorated with tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries etc., however there were some negatives for us. The shower didn't drain...

The room was very well presented, but we were on level 1 and all night long we herd running water from the bathrooms above, a boiler or air conditioning unit from above that was very noisy and kept booting up and then pigeons roosting outside the window, cooing from early morning! So whilst generally the suites were good If we...

We stayed here for two nights having found a good deal through Expedia. The hotel is very nice and clean and although the rooms are very small they are really nicely decorated and are clean and comfortable. The shower is nice although takes a minute or two to work out how to turn it on. The front desk staff are...

I traveled to Edinburgh for the rugby match last weekend. I stayed in the Fraser suites with my 13 year old son. When I was picking a hotel it was important for me to get a hotel with a nice bar and restaurant in it. This hotel did not have them which mention we had to go to another hotel...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
