Chose the Du Vin for a long weekend in Edinburgh as have been to the Bristol du Vin and enjoyed the experience. Location is good, walking distance to the Castle, Old Town, Christmas market and shopping centre. We had a standard room on the 1st floor. Room was very small. Less than 1m between the bed and the walls. Consequently surface... More

My husband and I visited last week, while spending a few days visiting our daughter. We wanted to eat early and our daughter suggested eating here as they had a set menu and offered a free glass of wine then we could move on to have a few drinks elsewhere. On arrival we were seated and were not offered the... More

The last time we visited this restaurant we liked the food but were badly let down by the service however I was assured by a friend that they had upped their game and it was worth a second chance. it was not! This time the service was fine but the food was way below an acceptable standard. The menu descriptions... More

I had a fantastic experience at the hotel du Vin & Bistro! The rooms were beautiful, cosy and clean and the staff was very nice and professional, especially the receptionist Lukasz, who was very lovely and helpful. Great experience and would highly recommend for a weekend in Edinburgh.

I stayed in the Laroche room and it was absolutely lovely. A very comfortable bed, fantastic shower, great TV and lovely coffee. I really like that you get fresh milk for your coffee - I can't think of many hotels that do this. The staff were very efficient and friendly, my stay went very smoothly. I'm sure I'll be back... We first discovered this Hotel during the Edinburgh Festival. With its outdoor but heated entrance for light meals, snacks, and drinks it was a fun place to be. We returned later that week for a meal in the French Cuisine Bistro, first class food from an interesting and varied menu in a surprising little dining room off the main dining... More

Everything is right about this hotel! Its small, its convenient, its friendly, comfortable, accommodating, the food is excellent, the bar closes when the last guest goes to bed. But for me, the real treat on this visit was arriving after traveling a grueling 30 hours and finding a oversized clawfoot tub in the middle of my room. After a lovely... More

I am so glad we stayed here. Too many great things to say about but saying that the hotel staff is so great. I was a bit surprised at first as to the nationality makeup the staff but it was very rewarding and fun to chat with them.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
