Hotel is located in heart of city. It is a clean property but without lift and normal service. Hospitality is good but limited. One who is looking for a bigger bed size must confirm before check-in as the twin bed rooms have too small beds... rest all fine, could have been better at this price.

Stayed here with 12 mates on my stag party. Hostel was clean , friendly, and excellent value for money! 20% off food and drink also for guests ,which helped keep our bar tab down! Only fault was it had only one shared bathroom with 3 showers and 1 toilet , which was very busy , with a lot of queuing.

I made a reservation for the West Hotel in Edinburgh through booking.com. No one has sent me a confirmation email about me staying in the hotel and I have never stayed in the hotel either. Now, I have been charged with 45 pounds for cancellation fees. The hotel has never sent me a confirmation email stating my reservation. My reservation...

In town for the military tattoo and wanted to be within walking distance. This was about a 20-30 walk. Check in was at the bar. We planned on having dinner here - as advertised - but there was no dinner on tonight so had to find somewhere else. We were in a twin room. Clean and tidy and with ensuite....

I originally visited Time bar at the West End Hotel in Edinburgh on a voucher deal. The food was lovely and the service was friendly and professional. I really loved the atmosphere and decor of the bar. A modern twist on Georgian architecture. When I decided to have a catch up with friends I chose here. On a Friday night...

The hostel room was excellent value but felt kinda cramped for me. Booked for 3 nights but after the first night in the 12 person room upgraded to a double room. Staff were excellent and transferred our money over from the hostel room booking so we didn't lose any money. Double room was excellent. Staff even held our bags for...

I had high hopes for this stay after reading lots of reviews. I have stayed in Edinburgh many times and looked forward to staying in Haymarket as it is handy for the tram to the airport. On arrival we walked into the lounge/bar/breakfast area where the check in is also located. We checked in, walked up the three flights of...

We stayed in a 12 bed room. The beds were very noisy but apart from that we had a good stay. I recommend this if you're looking for a comfortable hostel. It was close to restaurants and pubs and we walked everywhere we wanted to go. We didn't spend that much time in the "backpacker-area" but the bar was a...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
