Ramsay's B and B was a great place to stay. Sharon and Norrie were excellent hosts, the breakfast was good and location was close enough to the main attraction in Ediburgh that we did not need to use our car. The room was very clean and comfortable and would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

At only 10 minutes walk to the centre of Edinburgh (taking it easy with a wee little one!), this is perfectly located to see the sights of Edinburgh. Dressed in high end modern detail, our room was amazing, with fantastic attention to detail at nice little extras (chocolates and mints at the entry to the rooms!). The hosts were great,...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Ramsay's for 3 nights in September 2012 as part of my 21st birthday present. We stayed in room 4. It was beautifully decorated, gorgeous view of the gardens and a really nice bathroom. It had a king size bed, a bedside table, dressing table, wardrobe and tv with freeview- all of which made for...

Ramsay's is a delightful B&B in Edinburgh. The Ramsays are wonderful hosts who make you feel at home. They provide you with a delicious and abundant breakfast with loads of coffee, tea, toast, porridge, fruit, eggs, etc etc....! Enough to give you the energy you will need to explore this wonderful city. We found the B&B very well located, within...

Stayed one night at Ramsay's and would recommend it to anyone and everyone! Have never stayed in a B&B before and was always wary as they sometimes get a lot of bad press. Saw this B&B on the 'Four in a Bed' channel 4 programme {which they won} and no wonder! Sharon and Norrie have thought of everything to make...

The three of us stayed in Ramsay's B&B over the weekend. We were greeted most lovely by Sharon, the woman who runs this place with her husband, and were amazed by her energetic attitude. She made the best breakfast and was never too busy to give us advise about the city and the places we should visit. The rooms were...

Superb in every way--attractive, clean, comfortable, wonderful breakfasts with lots of variety possible, the most delightful and helpful hosts one could ask for. We had a room with a beautifull gardenview and quiet. It takes you only 10 minutes walk to the city

We spent the weekend at Ramsay's when attending a gig at Murryafield and were delighted with our choice! It's located in a great part of the city, with trendy bars and restaurants very close by and is only 10 mins walk to Princes Street. The B&B itself is modern 'Boutique' style with very nice rooms and bathrooms. A great breakfast...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
