Very friendly staff & effortless check in. Fairly Modern hotel. Rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was top notch with a good variety of cereals, fruit and traditional breakfast. This hotel is very well located in the Old Town & 10 mins from Princes street. Recommend highly.

Good location in the Old Town. Conveniently positioned near all the activities we did. Not too sure about the breakfast which is simple, but that is to be expected. No real toiletries except for soap and toilet roll. There are no safes or fridges in the room.

We stayed here for 1 night and we had a very nice stay. All the staff were very helpful and pleasent and emma was very imformative and helpful. We were on the forth floor and did notice some stains on the landing carpet which could do with a clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable and we slept very well and the shower gel was so nice ....so much so i have ordered some on line. We didnt have breakfast as we wanted to have an early start home. We would deffo stay here again...oh and we did run out of tea, coffee etc and the man that was working that night gave us a load....thankyou once again for a lovely stay.

This is a lovely clean hotel in the Cowgate (which parallels The Royal Mile). We paid £124 but it is worth it as it very well located for shopping and the festival. We booked a standard double bit we were given twin beds instead as the hotel reserved the right to give us whatever they had available. The beds were comfortable and they had council sky (Freeview) on the tv. There was soap and shower gel in the bathroom and despite forgetting our toothpaste, the hotel offered us a free toothpaste pack each, which was a big help. The free breakfast was decent but probably a 5 out of 10, mostly because there wasn't much in the way of vegan options for the cooked breakfast (sausages and beans only). Despite this, the nice rooms and location made the stay well worth it.

We stay in many IHG hotels and this one was quite disappointing. The double bed was very soft and we felt as though we were going to roll off the sides. Air conditioning just about kept the room cool but the nights weren’t particularly warm. Three times we had to get keys reactivated. On the Saturday breakfast closed just after 10 with no warning, despite its clearly stating it was available until 10.30. To add insult, staff were getting themselves plates of food. The following day, when I asked for baked beans, before 10.00 I was told they’d run out. After my partner highlighted the saga of the day before they miraculously found more beans. I believe they try to hold back breakfast for staff. These things might sound trivial but this hotel does not come cheap and is in an important location, just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. You’d think they’d strive for a better level off customer service.

Response from Kirsty Nicol, General Manager at Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh - Royal Mile, an IHG hotel
Responded 17 Aug 2021
Dear S-reet1, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express – Edinburgh Royal Mile. Very sorry to hear about your experiences during your time with us and certainly apologise for this. Our mattresses are at a comfort level 3 to try and have a soft/firm level that is in-between of not too soft and not too firm for guests and understand that this might not be to everyone’s preference. I will certainly pass this on to our Housekeeping Manager to check the beds to ensure there is no faults in the mattresses. We have not received any complaints about our Air-conditioning, and it was serviced just last week with no faults reported. When you place your key in the box for the electrics it will automatically come on with the Auto setting at 21 degrees but can be adjusted to cool to 19 degrees. However, will certainly bring this up to our Maintenance Manager to follow up on. We do have an old key card system and I can only apologise that you had the inconvenience of having to get them recut. This is being replaced in November to a more up to date system which should solve this issue for some of our guests. In regards to the comments about breakfast, to say reading them, I am most certainly as disappointed as you with the Breakfast Team and agree that this is unacceptable. I will be personally speaking to each of them to ensure that this does not happen again. Though I believe we spoke to you on check out about the breakfast situation where we did accept that this was an error on our part and compensated you for the inconvenience caused by this. Again thank you for your feedback, without it we would not be able to improve our service. Kind Regards Kirsty Nicol Hotel Manager
