The location is excellent, walking distance from everything and amazing views. Rooms were very spacious and clean with good amenities and staff were nice. However, when I booked this hotel I thought it was locally owned and run but realised when we got there it was a chain hotel and it showed. Room was clean but had awful sheer curtains which let in all the outside light so we were awoken at 5.30am by the sunrise both days. We also had all our towels and bins changed in the room after 1 night, despite not requesting this, which I thought was a bit wasteful. Breakfast was awful, nothing was freshly made (as evidenced by how many breakfast items were unavailable), the staff were nice but so disorganised that it took 35 minutes for tea and coffee and someone to take our order. When we got the food it was under cooked and cold and on day two I found a hair in mine. Such a shame as its a nice building and great location but I would not stay here again.

Stayed here for two nights whilst visiting the nearby Scottish Association of Marine Science for an essential breakdown visit whilst under Covid restrictions. Parking at front and also another car park at back (first right at church and first right again). Staff and hotel were very good and able to get an evening meal and breakfast but no alcohol when I visited. Right on the sea front so if you turn right out of hotel and follow road along sea front you come to Genavan beach. Just behind car park is a small football pitch and alongside this a path that takes you to Dun beg which is where the Esso garage is on the way into Oban where you can either run along the road or do what I did and take the same route back. Nice run and about 6.5 miles according to my Garmin. On the opposite site of the bay behind premier inn and ferry terminal you have paths up to Pulpitt Hill which is some kind of viewing area that offers god views above the bay. Oban is lovely and can’t wait to come back and would also stay again at the Alexandra.

Just returned from a 5 night DBB stay with my wife at this wonderful old Victorian seafront hotel, at an amazingly low out-of-season price. New owners Muthu have maintained its traditional character. The staff were excellent, going out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, the room was magnificent (especially the curtains!) and the food delicious. Covid restrictions sadly make it impossible at the moment for many people to travel, and the hotel was virtually empty over the weekend, but I am sure it will pick up again soon. If you are looking for somewhere on the West Coast of Scotland, this is definitely worth considering.

Great location, good value comfortable rooms what's not to like. Breakfast was very good and included. Usual covid rules in place. Shame had to book 2 rooms as no family rooms but right next to each other and worked out great having a few hours away from the kids. Not many people staying did feel a bit like the shining as it's a old grand building. Very happy
