Certainly the location, about 5 minutes walk from the ferry terminal, is fantastic. The imposing house offers gorgeous views on Oban, the isle of Kerrera and the sea, and you will enjoy Amazing sunsets from the huge windows of the nice bar area or form the garden The old building has a lot of charm and inside the hotel has a vintage flavour, with some quaint pieces of decoration. Very spacious room with excellent views. Extremely helpful and kind owners.
Just had 3 night stay here and enjoyed this B&B very much. Our hosts, Marion and Michael, we're very welcoming and only too happy to assist in booking restaurants. We had Room 6 which had a great view of Oban Bay. Room well appointed with tea-making facility and en-suite with bath. Breakfast very good with a good selection. Nice bar in the evening with a good selection of whiskies. Understand in talking with Marion and Michael they will be finishing this B&B business this year after 20 years and Dungallan Country House B&B will have new owners. As mentioned by others this B&B is up a wee but steep driveway and although not long it might be difficult for someone who has difficulty walking. Able to walk to some good restaurants close by (ca. 10-15 mins). We enjoyed our stay very much. …
The Dungallan Country House was a great find and the location is fantastic. Not in the throng of downtown Oban - which is good as it is so touristy and crowded down there...The Dungallan Country House is an easy walk to town. The view was spectacular and the accommodations wonderful. Michael and Marion were wonderful hosts and their dog is a great addition.
If you have only one night in Oban ever this has to be one of the best locations: close to the harbour, with splendid room views across Oban Harbour, the sound of Kerrera and Kerrera. The hotel is up a steep and winding drive high above the road. The hotel itself is a fine house. There is a well stocked bar. It would be a nice place to spend a few hours at dusk. Evening meals can be found in Oban but do book in advance as Oban gets really busy when the weather is good. I booked directly and got a better price. That said the room was expensive I felt for the size, but it included a sofa, tv, and comfortable bed with good quality bedding, there was an excellent supply of hot water. The whole house was very clean. Check in anytime after 3pm.
This is a hard place to review. It's cleary far overpriced for what you actually get in terms of accomodation and facilities... I guess the 5* Scottish Tourism rating is mostly for the view which is spectacular....right across the Oban harbour to Mull. The place has an ''atmosphere" stemming from the landlady who is clearly in the wrong business...she did say that they were going to pack it in soon...seems like a good move to me. I did not review the place on Trip Advisor before staying but would likely have avoided it due to the earlier comments....less the travellers remarks, more the owners replies which clearly show that ''you cannot teach someone what they think they already know".
