Coming from Newtownards on an invitation to Omagh we were taken to Mellons Country House. There was a spacious car park to park in.on entry we were shown to our seats and given menus. A waitress came over and took our drinks order. After perusing the menu we gave our order. Breaded mushrooms smoked salmon a D chicken ceasar salad for starters. This was followed by stir fry vegables and noodles, lamb shank, fish and chips and pan fried chicken. When the starters arrived we found them enormous. They would have done for main course. When the mains came they were also a good size portion. The staff we found very friendly and accommodating. Make sure you are very hungry for the 2 courses are plenty. Would certainly return the next time I am in the area
Ideally placed for going to the Festival at the nearby Ulster American Folk Park but overall a bit of a let down. Staff were very friendly throughout our stay, but the room we had, although clean, was small and had no natural light other than in the en-suite bathroom. The bedside tables were made of hardboard and had blistered where liquid had been spilled on them [by previous guests!]. The breakfast next morning was ok, but the Ulster Fry was served on a plate that was literally too hot to touch and the sausages looked anaemic to the point that my partner didn't eat hers and I unusually couldn't help her out. The establishment is described as three star but in the light of our exxperience I think that is being generous.
As this was the last day of our Holiday my husband and I decided to stop at this Country inn on our way home from Donegal . We were not Disappointed On arrival we were made very welcome in the lovely restaurant by a lady called Marie We were given Menus and our order was taken when we were ready to order. I had soup & a salad & ham sandwich with a side order of chips . My husband had fish & chips. For desert we had beautiful cheesecake Both our food orders were delicious . This country inn has Wonderful staff Fabulous food Spotless toilets We are so glad we called in to this inn as it made the end of our holidays very Special . Rose
Just stopped off for Sunday lunch selected what they called slow roast eye of beef but unfortunately it’s just a pre cooked meal bought in and they popped into the microwave. Better just to drive on can’t understand why a Hotel can’t make a Sunday lunch disappointing .
There were about 40 of us stayed here for an organised Ceilidh weekend. An absolutely brilliant place to stay .Very cheery friendly staff. couldnt do enough for us all. Rooms very comfortable and spotless.Food was excellent only complaint was portion size (too generous). Dining room/ballroom area was fantastic for our needs. We will be back as soon as we hear what dates are for the next one.
