Exceptional staff, a warm Derry welcome, comfortable contemporary rooms and a fine dining experience, this hotel deserves it top rating. We knew the food must be good when another great restaurant told us to have dinner at the hotel. One of the dishes was pasta carbonara with cauliflower. It was delicious!
My husband & I booked one night in the Bishop’s Gate Hotel bed & breakfast with an evening meal. We stayed last night & it was excellent. Room was spotless and attractive. Staff were so helpful & friendly. Food was superb as was the musical entertainment in the bar. We availed of the valet parking as the public car park across the road was full. One tiny negative point- I ordered hake as my main course and the portion was smaller than I would have expected. It was meant to come with sweet potato wrapped in bacon, however they had run out of that & I got tenderstem broccoli instead. I feel I should have been informed of that incase I wanted to change my mind. That said, everything was cooked beautifully so I’m being a bit picky! I highly recommend this hotel for a little bit of luxury & I definitely would book again. It’s central but quiet.…
Bishop’s Gate is always my first choice hotel in Derry, its a step up in quality and luxury compared to the others. Location is perfect, close to everything of interest and carpark across the road which is so cheap compared to Belfast prices. Had the pleasure of staying in the 9 London Street apartment this time and I loved it! Luxurious furnishings and nice little extras like coffee machine, fridge and Rituals toiletries. Bathroom was lovely with Bath plus separate walk-in shower, also air-con and temp control in the room. The only downside was I couldn’t stay longer. We also had dinner in the hotel and it was excellent, really enjoyed the ambiance of the Wig and the live music was great! Staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and attentive as always.
Friendly, super-helpful staff (particularly Robyn on reception) whisked our car off to park for us and found us a restaurant for the evening. Beautiful, classy hotel with gentleman's club style public rooms. Bang slap in the middle of the medieval city walls so great if you are a tourist. Stayed in Deluxe King room 403 which was a huge room with 2 windows overlooking the street (but quiet at night), a large window seat & a cosy sofa. Our gorgeous bathroom with an excellent proper walk-in shower offered high end toiletries. Nice touches such as complimentary choccies. Pricey at €169 but value for money bearing in mind the quality, level of service and location. Would definitely stay again.
We held our Wedding reception in the Bishops Gate Hotel on the 28th May and from the moment we booked it until we checked out the morning after the reception the Hotel couldn't do enough for us our Wedding co-ordinator Claire and her team were brilliant and her attention to detail was second to none, we booked the Wedding package which was great especially with lock down and covid it made everything run so smoothly and efficiently we couldn't fault a single thing our meal at the reception was 5☆ we had vegetarian, gluten free guests and our feedback from all our guests where excellent. We found all of the staff to be very passionate about the Hotel and couldn't do enough for all our guests we had a lot of guests staying overnight and everyone remarked how comfortable the rooms were and had a excellent Breakfast. If anyone is thinking about booking their Wedding or indeed looking to stay in the City then I would definitely recommend the Bishops Gates Hotel. …
I’ve stayed here several times now when visiting my home town. It’s a really comfortable hotel with great staff. The room we usually stay in is well equipped and in excellent condition. The food is good and the bar is cosy - and well stocked! The location is perfect for visiting the city. I always recommend the hotel to anyone I meet who is going to Derry/Londonderry.
We were booked into this hotel for two nights bed breakfast and evening meal. We loved it so much that on the first full day we came back to the hotel and rebooked for August. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the hotel is beautiful with lots of period pieces and renovated sympathetically. The valet parking is worth paying for and means your car is safe and secure. When receptionist found out it was Our first time in Londonderry, she give us maps and tourist information. Our room was 604, a deluxe king size room. It was absolutely lovely. The shower in the bathroom was the best shower I've ever had. Worth coming back for the shower alone lol. We didn't have a great view but then again, we don't go on holiday to stand looking out our window. Our 3 course dinner the first night was beautiful. Good sized portions too. Often in hotels of this calibre, the food is wee tiny portions. The second night we ate in The Wig From the bar menu. It was OK, just bad choices on our own part. When we go back, we will stick with the Gown menu, it suits our tastes better. The hotel is perfectly positioned for access to the walls, tourist attractions and Foyleside shopping centre. This was the best break we have had in a long time and we were very sorry to have to book out. Looking forward to August…
I took a team of colleagues from England to the Bishops Gate last week for a night and for a meeting in the hotel. From arrival to departure, the level of service was quite incredible. Having traveled fairly extensively, I am very used to polite and friendly hotel staff, but often it feels like it is not genuine. The Bishops Gate could not be more different. From arrival to departure, every interaction was positive, welcome and helpful. The team genuinely made us feel welcome and are obviously very proud of their hotel and city. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to help with odd requests. As a result, I've booked to take my wife to the hotel next month.
Myself and my partner stayed here for one night in January 2022. This was booked as a surprise for him and it was our first time staying at the Bishop's Gate Hotel. First impressions were great and started from my initial email enquiring about availability. I found the staff both through email, phone and in person when we were in the hotel to be very friendly and helpful. The checkin was fast and efficient and staff were friendly. We stayed in a luxury king room that was well decorated and was quite big. I had requested a room at the front of the property if possible as they include a fireplace which we loved. The staff had also given us a brownie in the room and a happy birthday message which was a nice touch. We had paid for breakfast the next morning and unfortunately this was a massive let down. The quality of the hot food was great but we found the service to be slow and impersonal. Our biggest disappointment was the fact that when we asked if their were any croissants as there were none sitting out, we were handed 2 wrapped croissants. They were the type of croissants that I have had from the Premier Inn before; not fresh, flakey croissants that I would have expected to come from a 5 star hotel. Furthermore, the jam and butter came in the cheap plastic packets that you would not expect from a 5 star hotel. This was a massive let down for me and it is unfortunate that because of this I wouldn't stay here again. We did mention this upon check out and were told it was because of Covid however we have stayed in a number of other hotels throughout Covid and whilst we appreciate all businesses within the hospitality sector are trying their best, these other hotels were able to offer fresh croissants individually when requested. Further, they were able to offer jam etc in glass jars which give that feeling of luxury despite them being 3 or 4 star hotels. I was really let down by the breakfast experience and felt that for this to be a 5 star hotel and for the money I paid it definitely could have been much better. Overall, the hotel is lovely and the majority of the staff friendly but the breakfast was a massive let down.…
From checkin to checkout this hotel was top notch. Every staff member was friendly and helpful. Its location within the walls makes visits to the walls, the Peace Bridge, and Free Derry very walkable (I did). One of my favorites.
