We have stayed here several times pre Covid and decided to go back now things were getting back to normal. The hotel is in a good location but definitely not at the same standard as our last stay. The girl on reception was very nice and checked us in even though the room wasn’t just ready. While we were waiting we got a couple of drinks and I’m sorry to say that there are some of the settees in the sitting area that have seen better days and need dumped. I visited the toilets and I don’t know when they had last been serviced this was around 3pm We got our keys for the room and it was disappointing there was no nice smell of a room just cleaned and the window was shut and the room was stuffy, it did have a nice view looking down to the peace bridge. The bathroom was disappointing if you sat on the toilet your knees where about 3 inches from the wall, the bath had chips of enamel out of it, the shower itself was surprisingly good. We had booked in for dinner which was included in our package for 6-30 and were shown to a table at the 2nd window on the right hand side of the restaurant. I have made a note of the table because the window sill needed a good clean along with the top of the radiator. The restaurant wasn’t that busy maybe about 10 tables but service was seriously slow we must have waited 20 minutes for a sweet to arrive and I had to call one of the guys serving and asked him if they had forgotten about us, he apologised and the sweet arrived and shortly afterwards the restaurant supervisor who again apologised and offered us a free drink. The bit that surprised me was the supervisor had time to stand and talk to someone she knew at the bottom of the restaurant and forget about anything else and I’m not sure if this made the two guys serving think why should we do anything if she isn’t. There is a big lack of training, the supervisor spoke when she showed you to a table but the guys serving barely spoke when serving and just looked as if they didn’t want to be there. Not what you would expect from a four star city hotel and certainly not a pleasurable experience. Left the restaurant about 21.00 went to the toilets that I had been in earlier in the day still not serviced and getting into a worse state. At breakfast the next morning we were shown to the same table that we had for dinner window sill and radiator still needing cleaned. There where cooked items that where out that should have been put in the bin not served to people. On the way out of the restaurant I spoke to the Supervisor / Manager and told him about the window sill and radiator with dirt on them for over 12 hours he took off without saying anything. The one night package we were on was definitely not value for money and the standard of this hotel has slipped and if management can’t see that, there is something wrong. I know we won’t be returning anytime soon and wouldn’t recommend to anyone which is a pity. The hotel we stayed in the night before on a similar type of package was way above the standard of the City hotel. The City hotel just seems to have gotten complacent.

Great hotel for a city break, excellent central location. Lovely staff in all aspects, from check in to house keeping. The rooms are a bit tired with scuff marks and chipped furniture and the bathroom could do with a refurb, but for a couple of nights it was grand. We didn't eat in the hotel so I can't comment on the food. Check in is 3pm and our room wasn't ready, we had to wait until 4pm, and there was an option on booking.com to request a smoking room. I had thought this may have a small balcony or something, but we found out upon arrival thay there are no smoking rooms on the premises, not the end of the world but I don't think you should be given a choice that's not avaliable. All in all a very pleasant stay.

The staff were super. The food was great. The location was excellent. The car parking situation is not good. If you pay for a hotel you shouldn't have to pay extra for parking. It is no defence that parking in an inconvenient off site carpark is subsidised. Surely it should be free? The hotel is under staffed. The staff that were there were excellent but a shortage in staff meant long waiting times on service during dinner. Check out time is eleven o clock and its 10 pounds per hour if you want to check out later. This left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall my conclusion is that this hotel is run by people that are a little hungry / mean. They should hire more staff and deal with the parking issue. I probably wouldn't stay here again.

We stayed at the city hotel recently with our toddler. A great location for visiting Derry and surrounding areas. When we arrived, We received a lovely warm welcome at the door from Gerry, a great first impression. This guy is on the ball and very attentive, a great ambassador of the City Hotel! The food was lovely and the staff very friendly. The room was spacious and comfortable. We all slept very well! I would recommend this hotel to anyone, solo travellers , couples, families, business travellers .. it is perfect for all. We look forward to returning.

Staff friendly and good location only good things. Rooms old and very grubby. No air conditioning. Bed small and very hard with lots of lumps - worst nights sleep. Room facing nothing out side/back of building. Breakfast was poor - a buffet which the food was hard as been sitting under the heat lamp. This room cost £143 for a Thursday night so was expecting a lot better. I've stayed in budget hotels for a third of cost with far better everything. Very disappointed and wouldn't stay here again.

We stayed here for a night and had a warm welcome at check in. We couldn't wait to make use of the pool area and hot tub. What a shock! The changing rooms were filthy and had no private changing facilities at all. The grim got worse on the tiles surrounding the poolside and was very off putting. We've been in a variety of hotels throughout Ireland and none have had such a lack of cleanliness in their pool area. Unfortunately, our bathroom wasn't that great either. It had no working fan and it could be clearly seen where the water had been running down the walls in dirty streams. It was horrible around the toilet base as well. Oh, and the bathroom door had to be slammed to close it, as it was hitting the doorframe. At dinner, the food was quite good, but the service was terrible. We went in at 6.20 and it was almost 9 when we were finished - if you eat here allow plenty of time! It didn't even seem that busy, with most of the restaurant being empty. I'd hate to be there when it is busy. Sadly, the cooked breakfast the next day was cold and very disappointing. I think the hotel needs a refurb and a good clean in the areas mentioned. On the plus side, the staff were, on the whole, very friendly, especially John the doorman, who was very helpful.

This hotel is amazing, stayed here for 1 night with family. Hotel is in a central area close to bars and shopping. Rooms are spacious and very clean. The food we had in the restaurant was delicious, there were 10 of us and everyone thought the staff were friendly, professional and fantastic. They couldn't do enough for their guests. It was a pleasure staying here and we will definitely be back soon.

Just back today after a really lovely and extremely good value overnight stay. The only downside was that, and this may sound petty, the lunch was not as advertised in McCoppins Bar. My mother, husband and myself ordered a sandwich which was served with wedges and crisps. We were so pleased with it we encouraged my daughter, when she arrived, to order one. She decided on a toastie and decided to avail of the offer and added a bowl of soup for a bit extra. When it arrived there was no wedges or crisps and the bowl wasn’t even a full bowl. We asked the staff, which I must say were not particularly very pleasant, they said because of the soup that was it! So not a very good value lunch and not a lot of help from the two members of staff who really didn’t really care about our complaint. On the upside the rest of the break was fantastic and beautiful food in the restaurant. The older members of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The leisure facilities were great and staff members there were also very nice. Definitely want to go back.

This place is horrible! I have No idea HOW it gets a 4-star rating. It advertises it has AC! NOT!!! And it’s hot and noisy and the window opens only 2 inches. My first room stunk-dirty- and was directly over the roundabout which was very noisy. They moved us stating they would give us an AC room, long story short, they brought us a fan! Since I’m in a Collette tour, I’m sure they use those AC rooms for their private check-in. Also No place to plug in a phone charger. I’m horrible disappointed with Collette and for the Hotel advertising AC when it doesn’t. I have been in 3 Collette tours and this is the worst ever arraignments. I researched prior to traveling to see which places have ac and don’t. I understand a lot of places don’t, but at least they have updated to the 19th century

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in July. The Good! It is in a great location and we were lucky to get free parking underneath. Our room on the 7th floor was nice though we did pay a premium price for it. It was clean and had everything we needed. The Bad! The bed was very hard and uncomfortable and we did not sleep very well either night. Pillows were thin and not great quality. The hotel itself is a little worn in places. The lifts and other areas need a good clean. In particular we were shocked at how grubby the dining room was. Glass partitions between booths were streaked with dirt and the floors at the coffee machine and the pathway into the kitchen were filthy. The wine fridge was caked with dirt and the vent covered in dust bunnies. We did not find the staff very cheerful or interested in us, particulary those in the health suite and breakfast rooms. No smiles or even a good morning. We were dismayed by the amount of signage in the pool area telling you what not to do. It is like a public swimming pool from the 1970s. We admired the optimism of the breakfast room staff having their Tip Jar at the ready..... and did notice not a thing in it. The "buffet" breakfast was dreadful on both mornings. Tables were not cleaned or set as you would expect in a 4 star hotel. Fruit juices were cheap and watery from a machine which dribbled them out. Coffee and tea in a similar fashion. No cups on one morning. Cheap selection of 4 boxed cereals and danish pastries on a counter which needed a good clean. Fruit salad had run out, and the selection of cold meats and cheeses were meagre. Worst of all was the cooked breakfast. Bacon was like leather, potato bread was hard, mushrooms dried up and everything including the plates was cold. I have had better breakfasts from a motorway service station. I don't expect anything to change here and you should not either. I notice the manager has had the same feedback from many similar reviews and seems to just copy and paste his same response without actually doing anything about it which is a shame as it could be fantastic if his staff were motivated. Vote with your feet and stay somewhere else.
