Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a hire car and found this hotel not only difficult to find using Google Maps and once we did find it, getting parked was a real challenge. The car parks are not close by and the one at the end of the street takes coins only, no tap and pay for credit cards. Hotel staff gave us conflicting instructions for parking as well. There was annoying noise around our room up until about 10 pm and the room was small and avg comfort. Overall we did not have a good experience here, lots of options in the local area, recommend you check those out instead of the Shipquay. Nothing they offered was worth the hassle.

Went a number of months ago. Basic food. This is probably because their previous chef left because he asked for a pay raise and didn’t get it! I know this for a fact as I have a close source who told me. Nothing to write home about. The chicken was dry and had no flavour. Fish and chips you could have just got the same at a chip shop. One main was pork with black pudding. There was too much black pudding and not enough pork. I suppose black pudding is cheaper than pork that’s why! My partner quite literally got rocket leaves with uncooked mushroom as a starter. Unsure what the dish was called but that is all it was. The pasta was more uncooked and hard rather than being “al dente”.

We had a wonderful stay at the beautiful Shipquay Hotel. I can’t wait to return! The rooms were just lovely, perfectly decorated and updated. The beds were very comfortable. The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful. We had breakfast and dinner at the Shipquay Restaurant which was delicious. I can’t recommend this hotel enough for your next visit to Derry.

A wonderful hotel experience. The service was impeccable, the staff friendly and our room was beautifully decorated. The only inconvenience is the lack of parking; other than that I would highly recommend this hotel. We ate dinner at the hotel and the food was outstanding; as was the breakfast.

Just back from a three night stay at the fantastic Shipquay hotel in Derry.Being greeted with a friendly smile and a glass of prosecco set the tone for a great few days. The staff in all areas were friendly helpful, witty and welcoming, the food and service were excellent. As a wheelchair user my room was accessible with the bathroom the best yet for shower and toilet facilities with grab rails in all the right places, took all the stress away. The Shipquay hotel is very central to everything wonderful Derry has to offer and the staff are full of helpful ideas from what to do to where to eat .I as all our group would highly recommend the Shipquay hotel and are looking forward to our next visit to Derry and the Shipquay hotel

Nestled in the heart of Derrys shopping district is by far the best hotel in the whole city. We arrived early and we were greeted by the mostly wonderful receptionist who made us feel truly welcome. Offered Prosecco and options of things to do whilst waiting on room (as we were early!). We checked our bags in and went off shopping. Arriving back at the hotel we picked up our room key and went up to our room. It was so clean, fresh and the the bed was excellent quality. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and spacious. As it was our night to celebrate our engagement, there was a beautiful card and dessert waiting for us as well as our bags had been moved to our room for us. Those little touch’s elevated our comfort and genuinely touched us. After a refreshing shower in the rain shower. Which had amazing water pressure. We headed down for dinner on the A la Carte menu, which was included in our room deal. When I say the food was spectacular, I mean. What we were presented to eat was nothing short of Michelin level food. Also what appealed to us most, was nearly thing was locally sourced and just transported you to food heaven with every bite. The scallops for starter is a must, the chicken supreme is just on another level and the icing on top of the exquisite meal was the dessert - The Summer Choux came out with a smoke filled cloche which your server will remove and your just hit with the most delicious and delicate scents. Three perfect choux buns with thick chocolate ganache, a dark chocolate cup filled with berry liqueur and the freshest raspberries and blackberries. I will dream of this meal until I return. The setting of the dining room is intimate but spacious. Serving staff were so attentive and just amazingly helpful. After dinner we headed down to the Lock & Quay bar and settled in for some cocktails. The cocktail list is a beautifully curated list. From the correct way to make cocktails and then to the modern twists. A phenomenal bourbon and whiskey selection also. As a bourbon drinkers, this was such a treat and again that indulgent surprise that elevated our stay. For £5 extra you can have the luxury of lying in bed and eating breakfast. That is exactly what we did, full Irish fry up, danishes, fresh coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Just when you think the kitchen staff can’t put do them selves, wait till you have breakfast. So to recap, you need to stay here. You will have the best, sleep, shower, food and drink. All within a 2 minute walking distance to the shopping district of Derry. Everything you need for the perfect night away.

Lovely hotel. Our second stay, within easy reach of rail and bus stations, although if you came by car no parking facilities. Calm and relaxing, friendly staff and fantastic food. Looking forward to our next trip to the Shipquay.

My husband and I always stay at the Shipquay hotel , usually every 3 months and we’ve never once been disappointed. Their special offers are excellent value. We’re just back from a 2 night stay with a 3 course meal included. Their food is always excellent, always something different. Breakfasts are cooked according to preference. The staff are WONDERFUL, we’ll trained where nothing is too much trouble. The location is ideal for sightseeing and the shops.
