A group of friends and I booked here for the weekend of the 29/10/21. John, Fionnuala and all the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful, the bedrooms are immaculately clean and very comfortable. The extra joy of a late breakfast served up to noon at the weekend was of great comfort to all the group as we were enjoying the local pubs in Castlewellan on the Friday night. We all had a late Sunday meal at the Kings Inn and the food could not be faulted, great food at a great price. And lastly a massive thank you to Fionnuala and John for liaising with my friends to host my 50th Birthday party at the Kings Inn. We all had a wonderful weekend.

Unexpectedly Surprised...... having traveled through Castlewellan on numerous occasions over the years on our way to Newcastle the Kings Inn never really caught our attention as the exterior always seemed a little run down.
Today 02/01/2023 we decided to call for a snack and we were pleasantly surprised..... nice decor and great atmosphere.
The menu was reasonably priced with plenty of choice although it consisted mainly of chicken dishes..... although to be fair these were varied.
Staff were very good, very attentive and nothing was to much trouble considering how busy the bar was. The 2 girls were both 5*.
All in all a very positive experience and in future we will definitely call in again.

We were spending a few day's in Down from Kerry and passing through Castlewellan stopped looking for a place to eat. We entered Kings Inn and were greeted warmly by the waitress. The menu had a wide choice and we were served quickly. The food was hot and well presented and helpings were a good size, in fact we couldn't even contemplate dessert after main course!!! The restaurant was clean and the toilets were also well maintained. We were so impressed with this place we returned the next day and were not disappointed and met another waitress who was equally friendly. We ended up having a lovely conversation with her and another woman. We were made very welcome both days and were not disappointed with our food. If you are anywhere near Castlewellan stop at the Kings Inn for food or a drink, you won't regret it.

Lovely stay at the King's Inn. Staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Lovely clean, spacious room, very comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast. I will definitely be returning. Family were camping at Castlewellan Country Park so it was a perfect location.

Went to Kings Inn Castlewellan for dinner on Sunday 6th September. Sat outside as weather was gorgeous. Service great and very quick. Food was delicious and stayed hot due to plates being heated properly. Could not fault staff service or quality of meal. Would definitely go back. 5 stars at least.

We where out for a drive and enjoying the beautiful Northern Irish weather and finding it difficult to find somewhere to get food, everywhere was extremely busy!

Driving through Castlewellan we decided to stop and try our luck at the Kings Inn. Although the hotel was busy but we got an outside table and finished our evening with good food and friendly service.

The table service from Fionnula was excellent and she has a lovely friendly manner as has John and very helpful. Although both were very busy they made us feel welcomed and are excellent at their job. I don't know the chef's name but his/her food was excellent, really enjoy it!

I would definitely recommend the Kings Inn on this visit and consider an overnight stay, many thanks,
'G & Jim'

I stayed at the Kings Inn for one night as i was in Castlewellan for a Triathlon. I have travelled all over Ireland racing and i have never stayed in such an unaccomodating place before.
My partner and I travelled to castlewellan and we were pretty enthusiatic about the Kings Inn having read some of the reviews. We were so disappointed.
I had been in contact with the hotel twice the week before we arrived asking about breakfast times, the race i was doing started at 10am so i needed to be having breakfast at half 7 or so. They assured me on the phone that they would look after me. Obviously i wouldn't b eating a big fry before the race, i had brought my own porridge and fruit with me in case they didn't have anything to suit a pre-race breakfast. When i arrived the guy who was there said breakfast was at 10am and there was no possibility of getting breakfast earlier. I asked if i could use the kitchen to make porridge myself, but he wasnt having any of it. This was never a problem in any other B&B or hotel i have stayed in.
We were brought to our room on the first floor where we were greeted with an awful musty smell all over the place. Our room was tiny, the toliet didnt flush properly and i discocvered the next morning that the kettle in the room was not working so i couldnt even make a coffee.
I was woken during the night by 2 drunks and the barman having a heated discussion in the bar. The walls are paper thin and i could hear everything. I have never complained about noise in a hotel before but this was ridiculous and at 3am i went down to the bar to ask them to keep the noise down, the barman initially denied it was them making the noise and followed me to my room then to hear the noise for himself. Once there he admitted it was them making the noise and left!! Crazy Stuff! I couldnt wait to get out of there the next day.
On checking out i told the guy the kettle in our room wasnt working and his exact words were "Oh yes Sir, we meant to change that this week".
This is the first time i have ever reviewed any place i have ever stayed in but i was so disappointed and angry leaving this place i promised myself i would leave a review so other people wouldnt be fooled into staying here.
