From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, every single member of staff was superb - they just could not do enough to help, from directions, room service requests, nothing was too much and everything is done with a smile - that really is the difference between a good hotel and a great one. All of the public areas and amenities were clean and some stunning artwork, from giant chandeliers to antique furniture and paintings all around. I could've spent a week here just wandering around admiring it all. We stayed in room 318 - it is very opulent with lots of plush furnishings and a very comfortable bed. Unfortunately the windows don't open - there are 2 aircon units in the suite, but I like a bit of fresh air. There is a lot of furniture in the room - beautiful old cabinets in keeping with the theme, but, you couldn't access the minibar in the room as the tv unit was in the way of the door opening fully so we had no way of chilling water, etc. The hotel provided plenty of icebuckets to compensate but it's a pity it wasn't thought out a bit more.…
Our daughters wedding reception took place on 30 June 2022. I cannot begin to highlight enough the first class personal attention given to this by Claire. From the moment my daughter was in touch with Claire to arrange her wedding until the day we were leaving after the wedding Claire gave 110% and more. She has a lovely friendly approach but with an exceptional note to detail. She had everything in hand which made the whole day run so smoothly. She is an expert in what she does. It didn’t just come across that this was her job but her passion to make sure that my daughter and son-in-law had a day to remember. The Merchant Hotel are very fortunate to have Claire on their team. Also, every other member of staff, from the porters, reception staff, waiters attending tables on the day, Shea who overseen the actual wedding reception and made sure it all ran smoothly, to the waiters serving at breakfast the following morning, all these people made this a day to remember. Well Done The Merchant, keep up this exceptional work. Thank You!…
Everything about this hotel was special for us. We loved the friendly staff and our room (we were in the Victorian side but the rooms in the Art Deco side are also special). We used the rooftop spa and found the other fellow users to be super friendly. We could walk to most places from the hotel so the location is perfect. Yes we will go back - we loved it.
There’s so much to love about this hotel, it’s hard to know where to start. The location is great - in the heart of the vibrant Cathedral Quarter with its many restaurants and bars and close to the SEE arena. We had dinner in The Great Room and all I can say is that the experience matches the name as the food, decor and service was fabulous. The cocktail bar was certainly a great experience also. Right across the board, the staff were great - big call out to Andrew who served us breakfast both mornings. We stayed in a Victorian room and the decor was elegant. Everything about the hotel is top class. On a cautionary note - the hotel is in a vibrant area surrounded by bars and nightclubs so noise can be an issue.
Final hotel in our 3 week tour of Ireland & had been looking forward to it. It did not disappoint! Gorgeous public rooms - the main dining room was one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever eaten in. Stayed in Deluxe Art Deco room 527 with absolutely fabulously chic decor + a huge turquoise bathroom with high end toiletries& a walk-in shower to die for. Huge comfortable double bed. 5th floor onto a side street, so no hotel noise & minimum street noise even with open windows. Close to main sights & famous pubs. Excellent, cooked-to-order breakfast in above-mentioned stunning dining room with friendly, attentive service. Checked in as early as we could & really made the most of our lovely bedroom. Out for the evening, so didn't use the bars or dine. Tea/milk etc was replenished while we were out & room was tidied up! It's not cheap, but the quality & service is exceptional. I left suffering from severe bathroom-envy...…
We had a lovely stay at the Merchant. We had spotted a special offer and stayed on a Monday night. We had a fantastic Art Deco room. It was huge with a gorgeous bathroom and a sofa where we could sit and enjoy a drink or two. Breakfast in the Great Room was really lovely. All the staff were very pleasant and professional. We also popped into Bert’s bar for post dinner cocktails. They were delicious and the service was great, very friendly. I’ve stayed at the Merchant before in the pre pandemic era and I felt it was as good as ever.
We wanted to absolutely love this hotel. We’re regular visitors to Belfast and this has been at the top of my list of hotels to try for ages. The red carpet was lovely on entering and we had high hopes! Reception was busy and we waited our turn. We where told our room wasn’t ready which was fine we where a tad early but at which point the receptionist started to deal with someone else. I felt so rude having to interrupt and just ask was if ok for us to leave our bags and head to the bar. Another ten mins or so for us to get an answer here, just stood at the side looking very awkward. The concierge then dealt with us and was lovely. Once our room was ready we were pleased with it although the was a curtain tie back broken and on the floor. The bed was so comfy and really was an impressive room. The bathroom was gorgeous and the toiletries left where high quality. Just as we where getting settled the noise started. We were right across from a bar. I mean it was loud. Very loud. On our way out I had a word at reception and just mentioned how loud the room was, he agreed and just said he would leave some earplugs in our room. Really wasn’t interested. We had drinks in the jazz bar which where lovely and the waiter was very attentive. Cocktails in the main bar where every expensive but lovely. The room is just breathtaking. Dinner in the jazz bar was nice again expensive but we did enjoy that. Just the room was very dark and loud with a band we didn’t get much chance to chat. On paying my husband accidentally put down a £10 instead of a £20 it was so dark. They had our room number and credit card but decided to dash out after us and count the money and make a scene to state we underpaid. That could have been dealt with a bit better, we were embarrassed. Heading back to the room there where no earplugs left so we had to go back down to reception and ask for some. The noise was even worse now. Popped into the cocktail bar to grab two to take to our room and paid at the bar. Again another guy ran out after us and said we had to pay. We had. Again so unnecessary. We were not allowed to leave the hotel without paying the car park charge even though they had our car and keys… it was very odd. It really is a lovely looking hotel, the main hall is beautiful. We had a nice time but for the price I don’t think we will be back. We ended up booking another night in the premier inn so we could actually sleep. We did mention we didn’t get any sleep due to the noise but no one seemed to care. Maybe we just had a bad experience but we left feeling disappointed for the money we paid.…
Visited for afternoon tea and had a quick cocktail too. Tea list was limited . Any left over cakes came home with us in a cute box. Service was fabulous and met my picky food requirements. Cocktails list was extensive if not a little pricy. But some very unusual offerings .
We stayed at the Merchant Hotel for a long weekend, our trip was prompted by tickets to see Queen & Adam Lambert at the SSE Arena. So pleased we booked this hotel, excellent location couldn't be better, 10 mins walk to the Arena, 20mins to the Titanic Exhibition. Surrounded by great bars and restaurants. Close to shops. Really impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of ALL the staff, they couldn't do enough for you.... in fact the whole of Belfast is really friendly. We stayed in a Deluxe Victorian room, extremely well appointed, very comfy bed, lovely big deep bath and shower was great. Very quiet, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and was outstanding, served in the Great room couldn't be better, would definitely recommend. Would have no hesitation on recommending this hotel, couldn't fault it, we will definitely return on our next trip to Northern Ireland.…
