We Book the Copthorne every year for a family stay, and are never disappointed. The hotel is very classic and simple, we call it our home away from home as it is very warming and has a vintage charm about it. An open fire greets you as you enter the hotel foyer, which is always lovely when you have been outside in the glorious welsh rain!! The rooms are again very basic but all you need. Rooms 220-227 face out to the impressive lake which is a nice view to wake up to. Beds are comfy and there is a flat screen tv and fridge. Bathrooms are dated but fits in with the classic design of the hotel. The best part of our stay is always the breakfast, we love it! There is continental, fry up, cereal and pastries. Not to mention the best hot chocolate self serve machine. All the breakfast is buffet so you can eat as much as you like. The staff at the hotel are ever so friendly and our room was always spotless with fresh towels and sheets. Like I said we stay here every year and it is always a pleasure.
Booked a surprise birthday meal for 50 people, 3 course meal and children's option, excellent food, efficient and friendly staff and brilliant layout of table. Would recommend to anyone who wishes to have a family event or party.
Check in at reception was poorly organised with queues forming and the lack of older experience in my opinion or a shift supervisor, having worked in customer service for over 25 years and in the hotel industry.....not a great start. We paid for a club room with promising views over the lake.....which resembled a sewage works to be honest!!! The room was like walking back in time with dated decor and poorly maintained wood work which gave the room a dark medieval feel. The tea/coffee/sugar facility had not been replenished so rang down at 3pm.....nothing till I rang at gone 5pm....no apology either, the man who brought them up eventually would benefit from customer service training....the same with ordering breakfast...we had intended going down but due to illness decided on room service again...we felt put out and it was pointed out that we should have filled the menu in and hung it on the door....the girl on the other end was checking people in for breakfast whilst still trying to hold a conversation with me....missed the tea order and we were minus 1 glass of juice...on the plus side the dinner the night before was beautiful and very very enjoyable and way exceeded our expectations, the room however was a huge let down and a large stain on mattress which is probably why we had a comfy topper on top....stain was located in morning as there seemed to be a floral odour coming from somewhere so decided to investigate!! Even with excellent food.....the room wasnt good....wont be returning unless these are updated!!!
Great staff, lovely reception area, hotel bar has a romantic fire, very comfy bed, nice big room, good location that was perfect for my business trip. I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area!
Just returned from a one night stay here. Hotel is located at Culverhouse Cross on junction on A48. Hotel is easy to find and looks good from the outside. Loads of free parking as well. Checked in and were given out room. Check in staff though did not give any of the usual information about the hotel - like Wi-Fi log in, what time breakfast was served or check out time (virtually all hotels I have visited give you this information on entrance). Hotel décor is very nice but does like quite dated. Rooms themselves are well equipped and spacious. Did not use any facilities at the hotel so can't comment on them. Would return to this hotel.
