We had booked 2 rooms for 2 nights to attend for a family wedding. Booked 2 months before and confirmed 4 days before, as they had not supplied a booking reference. Turned up at hotel after a 7 hour drive to be told both rooms had been cancelled and they had no spare. To start with they were not prepared to do anything to rectify this. After 2 hours found us 2 rooms 20 miles away for one night only. Only offered to refund the difference in price. We managed to get one room for the wedding night - only because one of the local guests gave up theirs. 2 of us had to leave early and travel back (6hours). Really unhappy with service. On positive note - location was beautiful and reception staff were really friendly.
I will say the disappointing things first.. Needs a LOT of updating...( And attention to detail.. 3 pictures of Venice in the corridor.. ALL THE SAME..!..).. Lounge area and bar sooo depressing.. Even a lick of emulsion would cheer it up but really needs decluttered. Breakfast is £12.50 per head and is tasty but a bit disappointing really. The good things... The view from rear room.. Straight down the lawn to the riverbank.. Spacious room, bathroom sad but loads of hot water, shower 🚿 good too.. But mostly the staff are lovel and most of them had only just started!! .. The lady on reception.. Very professional but had time to chat.. Jenny who does breakfast and cleans rooms too... What a lovely lady.!! We wanted to walk into town but didn't know directions so she offered to show us as she had finished shift... Chatted all the way and made sure we knew where we were and told us things to see... When we bumped into her later she asked if we had been to the market place... We hadn't so away we all went.. Could have missed it if it wasn't for the help from Jenny... So hats off to you!! Above and beyond!! Prob won't stay again unless updated but credit to its great staff...…
The room was lovely & clean with a King Size bed & the view from our window was beautiful, we could even see the spire of the Cathedral. The three things that drew me to the hotel was it's location, (it is quite close to the Cathedral & the city center), onsite car parking & free wifi in all of the rooms, the car park was quite large & there were plenty of parking spaces, but we could could not connect to their wifi, so a member of staff logged us into the staff wifi which worked great, until we went back to our room when we lost the signal, we could get a signal from anywhere on the ground floor including the bottom of their garden, so we would check our emails etc at breakfast. But on our last evening at the hotel my husband discovered that if you were close to the en suite bathroom you could get a weak signal, so he positioned a chair outside the bathroom so that he could get a connection. I found that you could get a stronger signal through the open bathroom window, so for a while on our last evening my husband was camped outside the bathroom & I was standing at the bathroom window just so we could get a connection. Our first breakfast there was shambolic to say the least, when you check in you have to tell them at reception what you would like for breakfast for the week & what time you want to eat, so we both ordered the full English & said that our preferred time was 8.30, so the following day we went to the dining room at 8.30, you have to give your drink, toast & juice order to a member of staff before you sit down. By 9 o' clock we were still waiting for our tea & coffee, so we managed to grab a member of staff as he flew past us & a few minutes later we did get our tea, coffee, orange juice & toast, but by 9.15 we still had not received our cooked breakfast, the staff were flying about delivering breakfasts to people who had arrived after us, so again I had to grab a member of staff, it was getting on for 9.30 by the time we did receive our breakfast, the truth of the matter was that they had forgotten all about us. For the rest of our stay, we had no more breakfast drama's, but others did, some customers were given the wrong breakfast & some customers nearly got two breakfasts and it wasn't unusual for a member of staff to come out of the kitchen with two breakfasts & not have a clue who they were for. But apart from the breakfast & the wifi problems we really enjoyed our stay, it was such a shame that it was a bit chaotic.…
Our hotel room was very dirty - previous guests mess here and there in all of the party’s rooms; detritus over the carpets; dust and milk/tea stains over all of the surfaces - if that isn’t COVID safe I don’t know what is! Decor was overall pretty outdated with peeling wallpaper and bodged bathroom tile/sealant work. Most electrical items in the room hadn’t been tested since 2017. Breakfast was poor with cheap and watery ingredients. Staff seemed nice enough however weren’t very welcoming at all and it felt like the floor manager was off as it seemed no one was in control. Avoid if you can.
This hotel has to be the worst hotel I’ve ever been in. Not only is it very outdated it’s really dirty. We got into our room to find milk stains over the tables and people’s food rubbish on the floor. It honestly looked like it hadn’t been cleaned which is really worrying especially with covid at the moment. The first time we walked into the room there was 3 massive spiders all over the walls which was a major issue for someone who can’t be in the same room with them. There is also some really bad safety issues in the room we were in. The bedside had screws sticking out at the top which could of caused harm to us. The plug sockets didn’t work and to top it off none of the electrical appliances in the room had been tested since 2016. We didn’t use them due to the fact they wasn’t safe. Our room cost £100 per night and we stayed for 2 nights. I wouldn’t of even paid £30 for the stay it was shocking. The ‘excellent’ breakfast which they charged £12.50 was enough for a small child you could of got more in Wetherspoons for a few pounds and it would of tasted better. It was full of water and oil and the quality of the food was just terrible.in. Avoid at all costs unless you want to be disappointed…
