One night stay on a sunday when watching Davis Cup, on a wonderful value £25 room cost if spent £75 in restaurant. We arrived late for our match due to traffic and the hotel reception ladies were wonderful, smiling, efficient and the valet parking was a godsend with our bags taken care of until the room was available. We came...

Dear Ian Thank you for choosing to stay at Hotel du Vin. I'm sorry that your experience was so mixed but I hope to clear up confusion on some matters and hopefully encourage you to return. Our discretionary service charge in the Bistro is currently 12.5% but we plan to reduce that figure to 10% on the next menu print...

I booked in for one night on their valentines offer of £330 with dinner. When i arrived at 6pm i was told the restaurant was full and i hadn't booked a table? I actually had and after paying £330 for the pleasure kindly told the restaurant manager so! If i would not have taken such a positive approach shall we...

Dear Glen I'm surprised and disappointed to hear of your experience at Valentine, especially after receiving such fantastic feedback from guests on the evening. I wish we had known on the evening or on departure that you had not shared the same experience. Please accept my sincere apologies. I really hope you will get in touch so that I can...

We love this place and visit it often. It is the old Birmingham Eye Hospital and has been converted into a high grade hotel. On this stay we were upgraded to a studio room. Very nice with one of the largest beds I have ever seen. Nice roll top bath and large walk in shower. It's a sexy place and...

Dear Rich and Sue Thank you for your review. I'm sorry service this time around did not match your usual experiences with us and thank you for your feedback. I'm pleased that my colleagues at reception managed to make some amends but I will use your feedback to try and prevent such things happening in the first place. We look...

Having stayed here before, unfortunately this one night stay was a reminder why we went elsewhere on the previous view occasions we have needed to stay in Birmingham. THE POSITIVES The bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept in. The bathroom was spacious and the rain shower was wonderful. AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT The room was not clean....

Dear Jandpuk Thank you for choosing to stay at HdV. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed our new beds and the wonderful monsoon shower. I think you were right to expect better in other areas and I will investigate exactly what went wrong. With this in mind, I would be very grateful to understand which room you stayed in and...

It is a good setting with attentive staff and pleasant atmosphere, but there are far too many service gaps, particularly for the prices charged. Rooms need a deep clean, eg to remove some of the bathroom mould; food items were off the menu but the waiter knew nothing about this until after the order; chosen wines were off the list...

Dear Ozzie, thank you for your TripAdvisor review and for choosing Hotel du Vin. We host our Afternoon Teas in a variety of rooms, one of which is our Courtyard where you dined. We would have been happy to move you to the Bistro if we had known your preference but the Courtyard is the most popular room for Afternoon...

This was my first stay at a Hotel du Vin. I seriously hesitated before booking, as the TripAdvisor reviews were very varied - with many on the negative side. However, as a wine fan, I wanted to try the place to form my own opinion. Location wise, it is well placed - approximately five minutes walk from New St Station....

Dear Giles, thank you so much for staying with us at HdV and also for your detailed review. I am pleased we got a lot right but clearly there is room for improvement. It pains me to write a negative review for this restaurant because I have come before and it's always been fine. Today however things started off badly and just got worse. I will elaborate. Stayed here in December in a large suit and wasn't disappointed, the room was huge, the bed was probably the biggest bed I have ever slept in and was very comfy. Lovely atmosphere and tasty food but please can waiters ask for your drinks order as soon as you are seated. We waited quite a while. We used our double value voucher. Well worth taking advantage of although it had quite a lot of restrictions on times it could be used.
