Needed a desk lamp on the desk, better quality bathroom items (superior king suite) as they were very low quality, Better lighting by the bed, fridge would be useful, ability to cast to TV or better TV services, parts of room a little tatty. For the price I expected slightly higher quality all round
We came with friends for a special birthday for a spa day and overnight stay. The spa and treatments were amazing, we were all so relaxed! Lockers in the womens room need a bit of repairing though. The hotel was incredibly ornate and steeped in history. Late afternoon we had a drink out on the terrace to view the gardens which were beautiful! We had a suite each for the night. The room was very clean and the bed soooo comfy! The bathrooms was lovely and modern. The only downside was we only booked one night! We would definitely return for another break.
We recently had our wedding day at the Welcombe and cannot thank and praise Mihaela enough. We booked our wedding 2 years ago and had to postpone due to Covid. The hotel was very accommodating with us and did not charge us for moving our date, we had a couple of hiccups as every wedding does but all our problems were sorted by the wedding day. Mihaela and Drew were fantastic on our wedding day helping things go smoothly. Thank you both again!
This has the wow factor from when you arrive and see the outside of the building along with the beautiful grounds and views of those grounds from the restaurant and my room. Yes the hotel does need a bit of TLC but that did not detract from my stay at all. The food was really good and served quickly and presented well I stayed in a suite and it was wonderful, separate sitting room/lounge and big very comfortable bedroom. The shower was great and there was a separate bath if you wanted to relax. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional from when you arrive to when you leave.
We have just had the best weekend away. The spa was great (needs a bit of TLC in some places but fully functional) We had the best person assisting every evening - Drew was amazing. Didn’t have any RedBull on the first night so the next day he went out and bought it in. Thought we were eating in the restaurant on the second night but ended up with our own dining room on both nights. He was meticulous with everything. Cannot be thanked enough - Drew and his staff really were very attentive. The rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable. Nothing was ever a problem all weekend. Thank you The Welcombe for being amazing and having Drew as a manager brings a new level of customer service. The food was great too.
Cannot fault the surroundings, the views, the beautiful exterior, the entrance with the grand fireplace and carved staircase. The staff were helpful, attentive and smart. Food excellent and plentiful. BUT...the room I stayed in was seriously overdue an upgrade. Tired, flat-pack type furniture with peeling veneer, threadbare patches on carpet, black mould in bathroom, rusty shower rail, and ancient lime-scaled bath taps. Worst of all was the collection of strange long hairs on the desk chair...
The best thing about this hotel is it’s location to Stratford Upon Avon! We are used to staying in old classic hotels which have been beautiful. This was a total disappointment. We arrived and were told they didn’t have a reservation for us. I had confirmation. We were told to collect our bags while they sorted it and they would come to find us. We sat right opposite reception. An hour later I went up to reception to enquire what was happening with the rooms. Apparently they’d been ready but nobody bothered to tell us. We were given “ upgraded rooms” for the inconvenience. We are pretty sure that the 2 rooms hadn’t been occupied for a while. They were in a separate wing from the main hotel. First impressions going up the threadbare stairs was the smell of damp which was not pleasant. The rooms were damp, looked tatty with broken furniture. Water stains under the window, brown marks around the toilet area on the walls and floor. Wall paper peeling off. Broken glass in a picture frame, cracked/stained bed side lampshade, windows that couldn't be closed fully. Drawers that wouldn’t close properly. Carpet looked very old and worn out. Didn’t even want to walk on it with bare feet. Our friends room had a dreadful smell of damp. We asked for an air fresher. They sent a can of Dettol disinfectant spray which was almost empty anyway! My husband slipped getting in the bath. We requested a mat ( there is a notice saying that you should use one, difficult if they don’t supply them) it arrived after 2 requests. House keeping was almost non existent. Beds not made,tea/coffee not refreshed,no clean mugs, towels not changed until the last night when they left us 1 between 2 adults! The only thing they did was empty the bin! We spoke to reception about it but it didn’t improve. During Covid times knew that the rooms wouldn't be serviced. Breakfast was also very hit and miss. We were asked if we wanted a drink and toast. It often didn’t arrive and had to ask again. The hot options often ran out on the self service. Pastries were uncovered, dried up. No separate cut fruit choices, it was all in one big bowl. On the last night when I unfortunately had to mention another problem to reception, they offered to change our rooms. I appreciated the offer but it was too little too late. I’ve never had to complain about a hotel or written a bad review but on this occasion it just made us so upset that we had wasted good money on a very run down hotel and spoilt week away. They eventually gave a us 1 nights refund. Even then I had to find out for myself. There was no note or apology. I’ve been in the customer service/hospitality industry for 40 years. This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It felt like a 2/3 star and not a Premier collection.…
We held our wedding at the Welcombe and it was a wonderful day, Drew was an absolute star, he went about and beyond to create the vision of a day i had hoped for, he supported and assisted me the day before the wedding and looked after our guests fantastically during the evening, Could not have asked for anything more from one employee. Abbie who ran our day was brilliant and ensured it flowed and ran smoothly, right from our registrar interviews to our drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening reception. Josh who was the barman the night before the wedding and part of the team on the wedding day was also brilliant, We encountered some resistance to how we wished to lay out the room for the day but again Drew stepped in to help and everything we requested was done and made the set up perfect and just how we imagined. I would definitely recommend this as a wedding venue or a break, the building is stunning and a perfect backdrop to any brides big day. I cant thank Mihaela, Drew, Abbie and Josh enough for what they helped us to achieve and brough to our day, only one person threw shade on our experience and that put a bit of a dampener on things, creating more stress for my husband to be and I, Luckily Mihaela and Drew supported us and gave us our dream day.…
Just had 48 hours for 60 retired doctors celebrating 45 years since qualifying from Birmingham Medical School. This hotel was shut for 2 years during COVID and the staff have all been hired in recent months. We had an excellent reunion here and the hotel staff could not have been more cheerful, helpful and friendly. The evening meal for 60 was absolutely delicious, served promptly and with minimum fuss. Amazing job to have got this wonderful old hotel back on its feet in such style in such a short period. The pool and fitness suite/sauna are beautiful and the golf course surrounding the hotel is in great condition. Beautiful walks into Stratford take 20 minutes and the hotel stands in beautiful gardens and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Highly recommended.
If you are looking to stay near Stratford this is a picturesque and comfortable hotel. We picked it for the spa but didn’t have the best experience because we missed the small print that kids times were between 4pm-6pm just after check in, so it wasn’t the most relaxing spa experience. Rooms were clean and service good. Bar was nice but on our first night another patron blasted loud music out on the terrace and staff who passed by didn’t deal with it. Overall it was an ok stay, we had a great two night’s sleep but we’ve had better experiences at other Best Westerns.
